Getting rid of the Time for regular service notice

I had my car serviced by a non volvo dealership for my XC 2005 wagon. They could not remove the regular service notice. On my last car a Volvo I think you held in a button and turned the key on then off. That does not work on this car besides I can't remember the sequence.
