Question about 2003 Ford Escape

Alternator wire diagram

I have an 03 escape I'm trying to put an 05 drive train into. My real problem is the 03 alt won't bolt up to the engine so I have to use the 05 alt with the 03 harness but the 03 has a 2 wire plug and the 05 has a 3 wire. I need to know where to put the wires before I put it in. Can anyone help me?

I'm afraid not. The alternators as well as the trucks are wired differently.
The black yellow wire on both models goes to the fuse box, but on the 2005 model with the extra wire, the gray orange and brown white wires goe to the engine computer which acts as the voltage regulator. The 2003 computer would not have provisions for those circuits.

They were the only place I could find that had the files, but I didn't download since I don't currently have the software to view .rar files, and didn't care to download it (also free).

If that doesn't work, you might have luck asking on www.thedieselgarage.com or www.oilburners.net . Good luck

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

How do I remove an altinator from a 2004 ford escape.

Hello there,
To replace the alternator in your car:
Open the Escape's hood, and examine the belt-routing diagram on the fan shroud. This will show you the location of the alternator and the serpentine belt tensioner.
Pull the serpentine belt tensioner away from the serpentine belt with the serpentine belt tool far enough to allow you to dislodge the belt from the alternator pulley with your other hand.
Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the alternator by hand. Remove the ground harness from the alternator with the socket set.
Unbolt the alternator from the alternator bracket with your socket set. Lift the old alternator out of the bracket by hand.
Compare the old alternator to the replacement alternator before installing the replacement. Make sure they're both physically identical before continuing. If not, take them both to the parts store to match up a proper replacement.
Set the replacement alternator in the alternator bracket by hand. Bolt it in with the socket set. Plug the wiring harness in by hand and bolt the ground harness to the back of the alternator with the socket set.
Install the serpentine belt on the replacement alternator in reverse of how you removed it from the old alternator.
All the best. Elect_Comp

How difficult is it to replace an alternator on a 2002 hyndai accent

Here's an illustration: Disconnect negative battery cable. remove radiator fan (next to alternator). Loosen upper alternator tension bolts & tilt/move toward engine to give slack to the drive belt. Remove drive belt & then remove lower alt mounting bolt & top tension/mounting bracket bolt. Disconnect alternator wiring/connections. Lift alternator out. Assembly is in reverse order of removal.

My alternator seized up and after we replaced it my battery light and alt light keeps coming on and the motor seems to surge

You alternator has a pulley on it connected to the drive train. Make sure you put that serpentine belt on right or you may ruin several things. There is only one right way to do it. Ofter times a diagram will be available towards the front of the car under the hood. Make sure it is installed ribs towards the pulley. Make sure all the other pulleys that are on the drive line of that belt spin free with no hangups what so ever. If you have a stuck pulley it will hold the rotation of the belt up and the alternator will not properly charge. Make sure the tension on the serpentine belt is sufficient too or problems could occur too. Make sure all the wires are connected properly and the bolts tight. Always double check. Once you get that all worked out make sure you let that battery charge for a good 10 minutes. Take it for a drive and let it charge under a load. Let me know if this helps.

Will a radio from a 03 ford explorer fit in a 05 ford escape? The 05 escape has the pins you need to take it out. The explorer doesn't, that has two bolts. Just wondering if it will or could work.

They have kits to retrofit radios. Another thing that will cost is having the radio reprogrammed. Everything has theft lock on them now days. You would be better off to get a aftermarket stereo
