SOURCE: won't start. Runs terrible. changed plugs, wires, fuel pump, coil. plugs smelled of gas and were blackened.

Not terribly familliar with honda cars but most systems use either a cold start injector or just richen up mixture through the normal fuel system. This is controlled by a temperature sensor, either separate from or part of dash gauge sensor. I'd begin looking for that. If its always in "cold start" if will give you symptoms like yours. If not fuel injected, check choke operation. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to begin looking!

I was driving my 09 mazda 3 the other nite after a bad rain storm drove through some bad puddles slow and the last one I went through the car shut off and I got it towed and now just turns over but won't...

Bummer deal! Not likely you hurt the motor - but may have water on those parts that make and send spark voltage to the spark plugs. When wet the voltage follows the moisture away from the spark plug - so the motor spins - but can't start for lack of spark. Make sense to you? Each of those parts need to be removed and blown dry - then it will run good as need again. Motor and fuel additives like those mentioned below also help with removing moisture in tank and motor oil areas and is a great engine protector - anyway. Hope this helps... http://www.auto-tune-up-and-repair-options.com/worn-motor-treatment.html

Not starting. Getting fuel/spark, and compression is good in all cylinders.

I don't think there is any sensor, you might need to check all the plug wires one of the wires might have come loose if they all are good then check to make sure that your getting fuel to the motor even if your fuel pump is working you might have a blockage in the fuel line, double check the timing to make sure that its right because if its off just a hair it will cause the car not to start. once you have done that if it still wont start hit me up and we will go from there ill check to see what else we should do to get your car up and going!!!!!

98 Chevy 1500 Running down road dies Has fuel. Has spark.

If it has spark to the plugs, normal compression, and fuel, it should start. So assuming it does have normal compression, I would want to know if it will try to start by spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body to substitute the injector spray. One of the three components is missing.
Another thing to check is the distributor cap and rotor to make sure spark is reaching all of the plugs at the right time.

Ford 1981 f 150 not running changed Coil distributor cap Roar arm plug wires did not help started bur ran extremely rough then died

motors need 3 things to run properly. gas spark and compression. the starting point. also spark timing.
the motor you are dealing with is easy. i just rebult a 1978. anyways sounds like a timing problem . first i would check the distributer. if all is ok spay a squirt of starting fluid in the air filter, or even wd40.,,,,,,,see if it is gasoline problem. isolate where the problem is.

No spark on coil. Drove in the rain then the motor cut out . Cleaned all th electrical contacts , no water. There is no spark on the coil . Please help . Golf 1 1.3 carb 2004

I take it for granted that you have checked the fuses and fusable links above the battery. Do you have a light on dash orange immobiliser warning light. Yes you have, as it comes on during self test when trying to start. Check to see if you have any power to fuel pump relay. no 409. Remove relay and place an amp meter across the two female terminals and turn key on. You should have a reading of 5 amps. this does two things 1 it tests to see if you have power to fuel pump and 2 that the pump is working correctly. Immobiliser system cuts power to fuel pump. Can do same test at fuse 28 if you prefer. if that all works then you can go back to ignition and check voltage to the coil possitive with multimeter on volts .one probe into the back of the harness plug on black wire with purple trace no 2 wire on plug the other wire to earth
if voltage then check coil resistances. if no volts then trace back to ignition source at fuse box thru key etc.

1989 golf turns over, new distribitor and starting

Did you use electric grease on these parts, the plug wires, and coil pack need this grease on there. It prevents moisture and wetness from rain getting within the components and causing mis-fire. Did it rain or was it cold outside to produce moisture. Grease is $2 for small pack. I just worked on a 95 VW, changed the cap, rotor button, spark plugs, cleaned throttle body, new air filter, fuel filter. His would run fine, but would cut off sometimes up to hours until the moisture dried. After tuning it up, he no longer has the problem. He goes through water puddles to see if it will quit, but it hasn't yet. Worth a $2-$3 try.

My 1995 Dodge Intrepid jerks and bucks when you drive it. When you let off the gas it drives fine. We have changed the fuel pump and fuel filter. It is still doing it. What could it possibly be?

Finally, fixed the problem. After testing the car with the fuel pressure gage, I found out that the car had proper pressure 46 with regulator and 55 without. After that tested all the voltages on the sensors. They checked fine so I disconnected the spark plugs while running (be careful not to get shocked, it happened to me a couple of times). Found that plug 3 and 6 not getting spark. So i checked the coil. With the car still running I pulled off the wireset at the coil one by one. All checked good except plug 3. That told me that I was not getting any spark from the coil for spark plug 3. I decided to change the coil. However. I also decided to change the wireset because plug 6 wasn't sparking at the plug. After changing coil and wireset, the car is running like a champ. Wish I would have checked it in the first place. It would have save me about $500. I changed out the fuel pump $300. I bought a new fuel filter $10.00. I bought 2 new O2 sensors $100.00 and also I bought a new fuel pressure gage $50.00. Lastly, new coil and wireset $90.00. The car is running like new now. I think better than we we first recieved it. At least I know the fuel pump, O2 sensors are good and now I have a new tool (looking at the positive side). Plus the car is finally fix and running great!!
