Question about 1992 Mercury Capri
Could be bad ignition switch in the steering column, try keeping the key turned and wiggle it a little, it may find a spot good enough to get the starter going.
Maybe bad wire to the starter solenoid, or cruddy connection at the solenoid.
A manual transmission must have the clutch pushed in to start. If the switch connected to the clutch is bad, the car won't start.
