i replaced the stop light switch ($10) to solve my problem. You have to take the panel off (3 screws) then you just unplug the switch right behind the brake pedal and put the panel back on.

It would be easier if you mention what device you're working with and I can tell you what number location it's fuse is at. Symbols are only there to confuse the hell out of you, although it's true purpose is to be recognized as a global standard. Now if you want to make it easier for yourself, buying a Bentley's repair manual is the only way to go. I hate to tell you that there are no free manuals you can down load, it cost money and someones time to upload a manual just to share it freely on the net.

My vw won't start...the engine turns over but will not catch. My mechanic says because it was raining water could have gotten in the fuse box...is this true?

you would have to look under the hood and pull the lid of the relay box and see.

i think if that was the case your fuses would be blowing, in which case a simple replacement is all you would need...50cents or a dollar a fuse. I would check the fuse/relay for the fuel pump and ignition module when you go under the hood. there should be a diagram for the fuses on the inside of the lid.
let me know if you need more help.

Engine gasket problem

VW admitted that there was a problem with the gaskets, and would pay for part of the replacement cost. This program seems to have expired, however. One thing that seems to help is a yearly coolant change, something that every water-cooled Vanagon owner should have done.
