jack the car right up with the wheels off the floor
install the torsion bar with the adjuster bolt unscrewed all the way off
fit the bar and lower the car back onto the floor so that all the weight is on the torsion bar
it should be sitting a bit low at this point
adjust up the adjuster bolt to when it sits level
if there is not enough adjustment the jack up the car again
let the adjuster right off an this time use a pipe wrench ( stiltsons ) to turn the bar against the stop plate a spline then insert it into the housing
this preloads the bar before any adjustment
lower the car and again adjust the bolt

General advice:All handbrakes rise adjust from under the car,very rare behind the handle lever.Worning:Handbrake adjustment need to balance so u need to know if each back wheel brakes even,in order to see that u may have to jack the car and count the rising clicks on handbrake lever to see at what point the wheel stops (u must rotate the wheel by hand (and maybe ask for a friend to brake),with quite some force.Inspect also the interior component (in the back drum if apply,if on disc there is no need)Empiric :by driving at low speed on even road and handbrake hard,the marks of each wheel on the road must start +/- at the same point.Warning:This is dangerous manouver,the car may drift,do not steer while braking,if not shure,better take it to a dino test.Tip:if u tune eack whell at the max brake open position,the handbrake balance,and from there u can adjust the hight of the lever rise by loosing or tighten the cable.Hope u deal it.Cheers.
Your brake handle has two sets of gears that will lock against eachother. The button in the front of your handle acts as a release for the arm sode of those gears. Sounds like the button is jammed. Remove the cover fo rbetter access. Slide the cover off the arm Shoot some WD-40 inside the shaft where the button sits and push it in. If it doesn't push in, then it's probably jammed in. Maybe something is wedged inside. The check engine light is probably because of the gas leak. The computer senses the low pressure and prompts the caution. On a second notion, if you had the brake pads replaced on the rear wheels, it's possible that the cable needs to be re-adjusted for the new pads. The e-brake uses the rear pads for action. Good luck!
Typically on the bottom of the dashboard under the steering wheel either by your left knee or between your legs when sitting down, you should see a pull handle with a picture of an "open hood". If pulling this does not open the hood, then you will need to bring it into the shop and have them pull it open for you.
There is no adjustment on the power steering pump.If you have slack or a lack of response most likely you have a worn part such as tie rod end or idler arm.Low pressure in the power steering would cause the steering to be stiff , mostly at low speed.The faster you go the less need there is for power steering,for example turn off the engine while sitting in the driveway and see how difficult the wheel is to turn.You cand jack up a front wheel and check for slack in the steering components by trying to move the tire side to side and back and fourth.Good Luck!
The tie rod may need to be adjusted to bring the tire back into proper alignment. There are actually three components to a tie rod system for these guys: an inner tie rod, an outer tie rod, and an adjuster sleeve that fits between the two. You can adjust the length of the tie rod via the adjusting sleeve. Provided the components are not rusted this is not a difficult task :) First loosen the two bolts at either end of the adjuster sleeve and then slowly turn the adjuster sleeve until the wheel is properly aligned. I generally use a large screw drive and just work carefully so as to not damage the sleeve itself. Once the wheel is sitting as it should re-tighten the bolts on the sleeve to make sure it doesn't walk itself out of alignment while driving. To recheck your alignment get a tape measure and check the distance between the tops, bottoms, fronts and rears of the tires. That's the easiest 'back yarder' way to get everything on the up and up.
Look under vehicle and see if cable at equalizer is hanging low. If it is or there is a lot of slack in it, then you just need an adjustment.
Basically, release brake handle, loosen the already loose cable (via equalizer nuts). pull handle back about...8 to 10 clicks/ notches. Then tighten equalizer nuts. Check it by releasing handle and this should release the rear wheels.Pulling handle up should apply parking brakes
There's a couple things to check. Your truck may need the cable adjusted underneath the car, but most likely the pads are getting low and the low park brake response is usually an indicator that the pads need replacement... If the pads are low , then replacing them will bring the park brake back to proper level. If not, the adjustment can be made under the truck on the cabling..
You need to bring the vehicle to a tire alignment center, usually any tire shop in your area. The vehicle needs to be placed on an alignment rack that will adjust your vehicles suspension to bring the wheels into alignment.
