Does anyone know how a 1990 nissan pulsar N13, 1.8 timing is set? we had timing right, was idoling ok, when went put in reverse it stalled, still splattering and farting. then wouldnt go. any ideas people?
TIMING SHOULD BE COMPUTER CONTROLLED. YOU HAVE ANOTHER COMPONENT THAT'S BAD.....THAT'S WHY SHOPS MAKE SO MUCH MONEY!

The first place I would look is the shift linkage for wear and a sloppy connection from wear.
adjustments may be made as a possible fix on the linkage rod.

Sounds like your alternator may be getting ready to check out. Have your battery and charging system tested by a dealer or shop.

Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes.....All that you want to do you can perform yourself and save quite a bit of money.You can actually find a VERY VERY descriptive online manual(which i have too) at alldata.com You pay a $20 fee and you get online manuals for five years for one vehicle.Definitely worth it.This makes auto work much easier.Any other questions get back to me...I'M HERE TO HELP!!!

Sounds like a bad IAC (idle air control valve/sensor) that controls your idle when going from throttle to idle. If bad your idle will act crazy and can cause stalls easily. Pretty sure that's it.
