Drain the cooling system and disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes. Plug the hoses and the heater core tubes to prevent coolant leakage.
Remove the 3 nuts located below the windshield wiper motor attaching the left end of the plenum to the dash panel. Remove the 1 nut retaining the upper left corner of the evaporator case to the dash panel.
Disconnect the vacuum supply hose(s) from the vacuum source. Push the grommet and vacuum supply hose(s) into the passenger compartment.
Remove the right and left lower instrument panel insulators.
On 1990-00 vehicles:
Remove the cross body brace and disconnect the wiring harness from the temperature blend door actuator.
Disconnect the ATC sensor tube from the evaporator case connector.
Disconnect the vacuum jumper harness at the multiple vacuum connector near the floor air distribution duct. Disconnect the white vacuum hose from the outside-recirculating door vacuum motor.
Remove the 2 hush panels.
Remove 1 plastic push fastener retaining the floor air distribution duct to the left end of the plenum. Remove the left screw and loosen the right screw on the rear face of the plenum and remove the floor air distribution duct.
Remove the 2 nuts from the 2 studs along the lower flange of the plenum.
Carefully move the plenum rearward to allow the heater core tubes and the stud at the top of the plenum to clear the holes in the dash panel. Remove the plenum from the vehicle by rotating the top of the plenum forward, down and out from under the instrument panel. Carefully pull the lower edge of the instrument panel rearward, as necessary, while rolling the plenum from behind the instrument panel.
Remove the 4 retaining screws from the heater core cover and remove the cover from the plenum assembly. Pull the heater core and seal assembly from the plenum assembly.
Carefully install the heater core and seal assembly into the plenum assembly. Visually check to ensure that the core seal is properly positioned. Position the heater core cover and install the 4 retaining screws.
Route the vacuum supply hose through the dash panel and seat the grommet in the opening.
Position the plenum under the instrument panel with the register duct opening up and the heater core tubes down. Rotate the plenum up behind the instrument panel and position the plenum to the dash panel. Insert the heater core tubes and mounting studs through their respective holes in the dash panel and the evaporator case.
Install the 3 nuts on the studs along the lower flange and one on the upper flange of the plenum. Install the 3 nuts below the windshield wiper motor to attach the left end of the plenum to the dash panel and the one nut to retain the upper left corner of the evaporator case to the dash panel.
Position the floor air distribution duct on the plenum. Install the 2 screws and plastic push fastener. If removed, position the panel door vacuum motor to the mounting bracket and install the 2 attaching screws.
Connect the white vacuum hose to the outside-recirculating door vacuum motor. Connect the vacuum jumper harness to the plenum harness at the multiple vacuum connector near the floor air distribution duct. Install the floor duct.
If equipped with manual air conditioning, connect the temperature control cable housing to the bracket on top of the plenum and connect the temperature control cable to the temperature blend door crank arm. Adjust the temperature cable.
If equipped with ATC, proceed as follows:
Connect the temperature control cable to the ATC sensor and adjust the cable. Route and connect the vacuum harness connector to the ATC sensor and connect the electrical connector to the ATC servo connector. Do not block the sensor aspirator exhaust port with the excess vacuum harness. Install the ATC sensor tube between the sensor and the evaporator connector.
Connect the ATC sensor tube to the evaporator case connector.
Install the cross body brace and connect the wiring harness to the blend door actuator.
Install the bolt to attach the lower right end of the instrument panel to the side cowl. Install the right side cowl trim panel and tighten the right door sill plate attaching screws.
Connect the vacuum supply hose(s) to the vacuum source.
Install the right and left lower instrument panel insulators and install the 2 hush panels.
Unplug the heater core tubes and the heater hoses and connect the heater hoses to the heater core tubes. Fill the cooling system.
Connect the negative battery cable and check the system for proper operation. I hope this helps. Don,t forget to rate my answer.
If this is a 96 LINCOLN TownCar, then "techbuster" is way off. The 96 didn't have a solenoid on the fender. The starter is located under the passenger side of the engine just ahead of the transmission. It has three bolts holding it on. Remember to disconnect the battery first. The lower starter bolt can be accessed easily, but the other two could be quit difficult. They can be best removed with a very long extension inserted past the passenger side motor mount. The single ignition wire and the starter cable can be removed after the starter is tilted forward to remove it. The starter can then be tested as can the solenoid to determine which is the problem.

you should be able to pull up on the headrest and it should come out there might be a little button on the headrest bracket that the rods fit into that you would press in if not just pull straight up with some force also try spraying some W D-40 or PB blaster to loosen the rods in the tracks so you can pull up on them GOOD LUCK!STEPHEN
If you have 2 metal rods for the head rest the at the base of the rods in the moulding on the seat back there will be a press button that allows the rod locks to open and allow the head rest to be pulled straight up at the same time.
Pull the headrest up toward the ceiling as far as you are able. There is a small plastic button on the side of one of the metal mounting rods (that go down into the seat). Depress and hold the button and pull up again. The headrest will come right out.
I turned my headrests backward. Worked great. In fact, I wonder if the engineers designed them that way but the production guys build them backward??? 1) Tilt the seat way back to allow room to remove headrests, 2) Press and hold both headrest release tabs at the same time and have someone else pull out the headrest completely, 3) turn the headrests backward and insert into the two headrest guide slots (headrests fit the same either way). 4) No more pain in the neck !!! Caution: I do not know what this does for whiplash injury protection but it seems OK for my own comfort with the solution. And it beats the pain in the neck caused by the bass-akwards design.
Most volvo headrest can be removed by releasing the catches which are on the back of the headrest on some models and on the front on others I believe on 960 they are on the back. To release the seat on a 960 look where the shafts should be then follow it down on the back where the seat back top stops then goes in press around that area you should be able to find the catch there pull up on the headrest while releasing the catch you have to do this on both sides. The headrest should come off this also works on 740 and 760 series the volvo 780 is a different story the only way to get the headrest off on that is to disassemble the seat
The headrest has on obvious button to adjust the height and another button kinda hidden to remove the headrest. The black plastic ring at the base where the metal poles insert into the seat is where the two buttons. You probably noticed the obvious on that sticks out of the side of one of the rings. The other plastic ring contains a similar button that is not noticeable due to it being flush with the side of the plastic ring. Adjust the headrest to its highest position, then locate the "hidden" button on the other plastic ring and depress it while lifting on the headrest and it should come out.
Look at the top of ur seat, between the two shafts of ur headrest. Beside one of the posts is a black plastic base on which one side has a button u push. That allows u to remove the headrest. U might have to jimmy side to side a bit as they are somewhat hard to remove at times, just do so with ur finger pushing the release mechanism.
yes this is a common minor issue with these headrest. where the little button at the bottom is you should be able to just hold that in and slowly liftup on the headrest and it should come out with ease. if this does not work you have only one more option and that is to gently remove the seat cover its self from the seat foams all the wayup to the headrest holes ( NOW if it is orig fab/leather or vynil you will have to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL not to destroy your seat covers in the process of this. i recomend in this case you take it to a professional if that is not the case keep reading) if it is orig vynil you will need a blow dryer to loosin the vynils grip on the foams if it is fabric it is just going to take a little bit more time to wiggle it off of there! then when you have all of that off in the location of the headrest you should be able to push the headrest up thru the orig holes . that is what i know . i hope this helps you out without damage to your very sweet RR
