Question about 2007 Cadillac CTS 3.6L

1 Answer

My car wouldnt start and i m wondering if its the battery or electrical.

There was steam coming from inside the battery protector 2 nights ago. Yesterday i put more coolant in the reservoir and let it run for 10min. I put the heat on full but it definitely wasnt hot air more like warm. I waited to see if it would start to steam again but it didnt. Today i went to leave and my car was dead and wouldnt turn over even with a jump. What could it be?

I suspect that the battery was boiling from uncontrolled charge rate. Have the battery load tested and have the alternator charge rate checked.

Im assuming i will be purchasing a new battery, any suggestions? I shouldve mentioned that i also have a expensive aftermarket system in my car, but ive never even had it close to its full potential for it to short out etc.

SOURCE: the fan inside the car

the blower motor isnt working as it should. you probably need to replace it. put the switch on high and raise the hood of the car and on the passenger side you will find the blower motor,,,tap it a few times and see if it kicks on .if it does you have a loose connection if it dosent you have a bad blower motor

Check grounds. Battery to engine, battery to body and engine to body. Battery to body will corrode. engine to body is usually the first to break.

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee has started needing a jump to get started about once a week.. had the alternator and battery tested, both are good. 2 nights ago it wouldnt start, so I got a jump and drove it...

I would have a load test done on the battery as there is a dead cell evident from the number of jump starts you need. Have an auto electrician test the alternator for charge rate and out put. check drive belt condition and tension.

Battery died but when opened up to check battery there is a ticking sound

Yes one of the relays could be draining the battery.
I would open the fuse and relay boxes and try to find where the noise is coming from. If it is a relay, pull it out and see if the noise stops.

We got a new battery a few ago and the car worked fine until last night and it wouldnt start, no clicking noise and no power at all until he hooked the cable up and it started and we got around the corner...

I would look for a loose connection at the starter or the main fuse block. Another might be the ground connection where the main ground to the battery goes to the frame of the car.

Might be a bad battery?? Saw one with a broken connection inside the battery once. Might try and scrape the battery terminals down to shinny lead and tighten the connections with a wrench.

Battery was replace 2 yrs ago. I had an issue with the car dying on me a few weeks ago. I wiggled the positive wire and it started. Now 2 weeks later, i tried the same thing when it decided not to start....

Take the battery cables off one by one and clean the inside of the clamps with sandpaper/emery cloth. do the post also, re-clamp and try again. Many times the inside of the cables become corroded and have enough contact to power the lights but when you try to start it there is not enough flow to turn the starter.

Started fine last night. It was cold this morning and wouldnt start. the temp has warmed up, but it still wont start

if it was to cold the battery may have been damaged. inside your battery are plates of material that with alkaline. well nevermind. your battery got to cold breaking the plates inside. solution: new battery
