1991 geo prizm

The clutch pedal got looser as I drove until there wasn't a clutch & I couldn't shift. Since this happened I've cleaned out the cylinder & bled the salve. Still no clutch. A few times I had my son push the button a few times on the reservoir tank, I had a clutch & drove it a few weeks once. Is there a plug on the transmission to put regular gear oil in? I've got to get this car running & haven't the $ to pay someone.

Should be on upper side of tranny. some times you could keep driving and that would work the air out by it`s self.if not you could have air leak in the system. marv

does engine crank and start in gear? in gear?
the first thing to check is the clutch pedal actuation system.
cable on some , and Hydraulic on othere
open hood, see that MC for clutch, is the Reservoir dry?
yes, no?
yes, then the slave or mc is bad or both, the one leaking is bad.
Most cases Hydra clutches can not cause slip. (rare)
its a cable, can if cable frays inside or rust, (big time common)
well all cable clutches need service, if not it fails.
called setting free play in the book, FSM book

it's not a cable system,
Mitchells shows, hydra. clutch
so unbolt the slave.(on bell)
start car in gear, does car move. yes /no?
yes, clutch ok , and slave is siezed.
no, then clutch is bad (inside bell housing) $$$$$

i posted both ways, as these era cars run to clutch systems.
that could even change mid year, production.

S= slave
Bell = bell housing
L = clutch lever.
see the 2 bolts?
some Slaves can seize (due to running old fluid full of water)
Dot3 fluid is hydrascopic and needs service every 2 years. min.

never condemn any clutch until these checks are done

How do I change clutch fluid in a 97 Geo Prizm?

like all cars, with hyda. m/t clutch,
it is a stick right, all cars have clutch, old cars had a/t drain for clutch.
so my answer is for stick clutch M/C drain an fill.
so the cap tells you its DOT-3/4
so bleed it just like brakes, ever do those before.
if not watch any of 100s of youtube videos on that and clutch.
there are 5 ways to do it. (tools vary)
ill show 2man way
drain out 3/4 fluid from res. and fill to top with fresh)
i use a turkey baster, for 1buck.
you press pedal to floor.
person 2 opens bleed valve at the SLAVE>
then closes it as flow stops
person 2 yells, ok , repeat.
and repeats (all)until all old fluid is gone and fresh seen below.
that is it.

Loose clutch

If It Was Empty Did You Bleed The System Like You Do Brakes? If That Dont Work You Might Need A Master Or Slave Cylinder But First Check To See If You Still Have Fluid In It Then Bleed It

When I pushed my clutch in to shift I felt a pop under my foot. After that I couldn't get my truck into gear. And now I can't start my truck.

Look underneath at where the pedal mounts, My bet is the plate that is mounted to the pedal has cracked. Im not saying you should, But i would leave it in place & spot weld it.

Is there a way to bleed the clutch. It's not slipping but I have to pump the clutch pedal to shift. The fluid was really low so I thought air might be in the lines.

You can open the bleed screw and let it gravity feed or pump the pedal like you would brakes and let someone open the bleed screw for you.

My brake lights stay on even when car is off and pedal is not depressed. I have a 1991 geo prism

It sounds like it may be a bad brake light switch. The switch is located under dash above brake pedal, usually mounted on the pedal shaft coming down from where it bolts into the pushrod going through firewall. Once you locate the switch, unplug the connectors and see if brake lights go out. If lights go out, then the swtich is bad.

Geo tracker wont shift after clutch and clutch cable replaced

this is common.
it is caused because NO ON ever changes the cable at 100k miles.
it then wears a groove inside the cable and jams where you cant see.
(got my car dirt cheap cuz no one could figure this out)

the next thing to happen (toss coin) is the fire wall cracks or the clutch pedal spline strips.

now you know the why , so now correct all the damaged caused by a $45 cable.
