Question about Ford Cars & Trucks
The tranny kicks out of gear after driving for about 30 minutes at highway speeds. Shifts great otherwise. When the problem occurs I can shift down to 2nd gear and its ok. When I turn off the o/d button I can feel it disengage but unless I shift down to 2nd it still seems to be in neutral. When I come to a stop and take off it seems to shift fine and then starts flaring into neutral after 3rd. It doesn't normally happen until its been driven for a little while.
I had trouble with what seemed like a transmission on my ford van. Was told by a master mechanic to disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable for 5 minutes to reset computer. I did this, it worked & never had another problem with it. Maybe it will work in your situation. Doesn't cost anything to try!:)

SOURCE: transmission problems
This is what my 04 Kia Rio is doing exactly. I was told that the TCM and Shift Solenoid "C" is faulty. Am trying to figure out how to go about fixing that without paying more than the car is worth. My tech checked with the local Kia dealership and the TCM new is I think around $700. You also have to buy the program to tell this high dollar part what to do and that is right at $100. I have found that sometimes if I let the car warm up and then keep hitting the overdrive button, eventually it starts shifting correctly.
