Question about 1999 Chrysler Cirrus

1 Answer

Blend door postion selector

My 1999 Chrysler Cirrus mode selector stop working. The selector works only on defrost no matter which mode I select. The defrost always works when the heat or AC is on. Any ideas? I replaced the actuator, tried pulling the M-1 fuse to reset, even found a replacement control module(panel) at a salvage yard. And still, every time, the actuator motor will go through the reset gyrations, spinning for about 15 sec., then nothing.....no further reaction to the position selector. At my wit's end... Thanks, -Todd

According to the book, I'm showing a mode actuator and a blend door actuator next to it. Some models use cables and some use small electric motors to move the doors.
Are you sure you are working on the right door ?

Can't change what vents A/C and heat blow out of.

While it's possible there are other problems the repair procedure would be to replace the blend door motor and while doing so confirm that the blend door moves freely without binding up.

Hearter temp control was blowing too hot, now only blows cold

Clicking sound you hear is the worn brushes in your blower motor. At this point the blower moter may or may not start with the switch. THe blower motor is faulty so I would change that first, then check for vacuum leaks or faulty selector cable for the heat blend door. It could have came off door side or heater control side.

Mode door actuator

Hopefully it's the switch behind the dash. I would try replacing your selector switch before messing with the blend door. You have to pull the dash out to access the blend door

Chrysler cirrus, heater blows warm through dash but cold on defrost and floor

If the heater is working correctly, and the air temp does not stay the same coming from different outlets, the problem could be a blend door under the dash. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and out the vents.

MY DISTRABUTION DIAL FOR DEF.,VENT, ETC IS IN DEFROST AND WON'T CHANGE. THE DIAL TURNS BUT NOTHING CHANGES. I NEEN SOME ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO TO FIND PROBLEM AND FIX. THANKS GENO

Here is the info. I hope the pictures show up. please rate assistance. thx.

Air distribution within the vehicle is determined by the function selector switch position. Two airflow mode doors are used to direct airflow within the heater core and evaporator core housing. The function selector switch/cable assembly is used to position these airflow mode doors. Refer to Section 412-00 for description and operation of each of the system functions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Function Selector Cable Assembly
The function selector cable assembly moves the airflow mode doors to the desired position using a 2-sided pull-pull type cable assembly. The function selector controls the cable movement. The end of the cable assembly attaches to the airflow mode door/temperature blend door actuating assembly which transfers the cable movement to the 2 airflow mode doors.
An electrical switch is incorporated into the function selector to notify the A/C switch assembly if DEFROST or FLOOR/DEFROST is selected. When DEFROST or FLOOR/DEFROST is selected, the A/C switch assembly will disable the RECIRC request button and send an A/C request to the powertrain control module (PCM) regardless of the A/C request button indicator ON/OFF status.

HVAC vent selector does not function. Air flow is

THe blend door seems to be stuck. When you change settings from defrost to floor air or, vent, the blend door opens and closes directing the air to the place you want it to go to. I have had some success spraying a lubricating oil such as WD40 under the dash on the blend door. You need to get under the dash with a flashlight to locate it. It looks like a flap. Spray it with a couple of shots of the WD40. Go easy on the spraying as you may be inhaling the fumes. Keep the doors and windows open to minimize the fumes. Wait about 1/2 hour and try the A/C functions. (defrost, floor, vent air)
