SOURCE: 2004 Honda Civic Ex won't start

if it sounds like it is trying to start you possibly have the firing order off. if that is not the case I would recheck the timing of belt to make sure you dont have one tooth off. stuff like that is so aggrivating, but if you have fuel and fire all you are missing is compression,if firing order isnt off, valves not being completely closed whent they need to be. due to improper timing.

SOURCE: Replacing head gasket on 1995 honda civic, require torque specs and secquence

wow. a lot of bad information on this site. Refer to a manual for the proper torque sequence. The civic I believe is a two step torque procedure. First 22 ft lbs, than 53 ft lbs.

SOURCE: 2005 Honda Civic No heat at idle but have heat

sounds like a circulatory problem. at the back of your engine compartment there should be two pipes connecting your matrix to your water system. it used to be common practise that when your matrix went to just connect them together and bypass as the dashboard has to come out to repair.

Replace accelerator cable

Very easy to do. Take the old one off and you will see how easy. At the carburetor, the cable will be secured by a bracket. Unfasten it there, and then on the carb. roll the throttle back to wide open throttle, cable will be loose, lift it out of the groove it rides in and slide the end out of the throttle lever. At the firewall where cable goes to the gas pedal, there will be a rubber grommet that cable goes through. Just punch the rubber grommet out of the firewall.
Now on the gas pedal attachment, many different ways to secure it. Some just snap into a hole on back of gas pedal. If you can't see how to disconnect, take the gas pedal off-usually held to floor by two screws-and turn the pedal around to see how the cable connects. Once disconnected, the cable can be removed, usually drawn out of firewall on the engine side.
Good luck. Now the next time you have to replace it (like 25 years, !) you will know how to do it. Keep the old Honda running!

My 1989 honda civic recently failed functional check becauhe mechanic saied he could nnot find any btiming marks on the balancer. is there timing marks on 1989 hondas aned should my car be exempt for...

there there they probably just are not as easy to see as they once where. here will be a pointer on the timing cover and there will be four notches on the balancer, three close together and on space a little further than the other three. At one time the center notch in the three grouped together was red.

The balancer may need to be cleaned a little with some sandpaper to make them visible but they should be there.

The other think that comes to mind is there might be a rubber plug in the transmission under the distributor. Some of the older honda engines had this, I don't remember of hand which ones. When you remove the plug you will see the notches and timing marks.

Throttle cables???

it controls the shifting of the trans. it is important to have this adjusted correctly. I dont remeber the exact procedure but I do know that when it is all said and done, you end up with only a slight bit of slack on the trans cable.

Just installed new carb in my 1989 honda. Used diagram to connect vacuum hoses back up, but car idle speed is too high - up to 2,000rpm. What could be wrong?

try turning down the idle via the idle adjust set screw (usually on the carburetor base). if the problem persists after the engine is warmed up, there may be an issue with the automatic choke. also check the throttle linkage by disconnecting it to see if it is holding the throttle open when connected. if this is the case, you may need to adjust it or find a slightly longer cable.

Changing Idle Control Valve on 1997 Honda Civic 1.4i auto 3 door hatch

I have a 1997 Civic DX. It looks to me that the IACV is located between the engine valve cover and throat of the air intake or throttle body. Not near the fire wall. This model has 4 screws connecting it to the throttle body.
