Question about Cars & Trucks

I have a squeak noise when my 2000 v6 mustang starts up but I took the serpentine belt off and it still makes this noise I had one mechanic say it was a hydronic tensioner and that it would be around 800 to fix with labor and if that is the problem do I need to fix it quick because it could cause damage to the engine?

Well the mechanic that I talked to said the noise was come from behind the timing chain cover and that he would have to take the engine apart to fix it he thinks its the hydraulic tensioner that is next to the timing chain because the noise normally goes away after the car warms up

SOURCE: 2000 plymouth grand voyager 3.3 V6, loud noise in serpentine belt area

remove belt and check the pulleys. this belt routing is odd and its very tight. i have seen many failed tensoner pulleys on these. it should spin smoothly and quiet. and grinding or bumpyness in it and i would replace it. check all pulleys while your there. they are not expensive.

good luck,
Michael

SOURCE: squeaking noise in engine. not serpentine belt.

You might have a dry bearing in the alternator. I've had a squeaking noise from them.

Testimonial: "thanks! the noise is not constant. it cycles with the rpm's. it like squeak-squeak- squeak and progresses as the rpm's increase."

How to tighten /loosen belts on a 2000 xterra, its making a super loud squeaking noise when i turn on the car

The only cure to fix squeaking belts, is to replace with the new one. When the belts start squeaking noise, then it is the time to check the status of the timing belt or chain, depending on the size of the engine.
The 2000-2004 Nissan Xterra was offered with the choice of 2.4L 4-cylinder or 3.3L V6 engine.
The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder DOHC engine was a pretty good reliable engine, but for this truck, it was underpowered. This engine has a long-lasting timing chain - there is no timing belt to replace.
The 3.3-liter V6 SOHC was also a bit slow on pick-up, but for daily use, it was pretty good, durable, simple engine. This engine has a timing belt that needs to be replaced at recommended intervals. The SE model offered a supercharged version of the same engine with more power.
