96 thunderbird won't start

How can I tell if the problem is the fuel pump? I've checked all the fuses and they seem to bee good. I've even disconected the battery thin king it may reset the computer and car would start. When I turn key to "on" I don't hear the humming noise of the fuel pump.

Where is the fuel pump relay located on 96 thunderbird v6? I also replaced gas filter. The car started and ran for a few seconds. Could the problem be the ignition switch?

what about the fuel pump shut-off reset switch?

Check your owners manual for the relay location. It should be in the box near the battery. The enertia switch cuts power to the pump in the event of a wreck, you have to reset it when that happens. It could be any number of electrical problems, thats why you have to start with fuel or ignition and start eliminating things.

And you will probably need a repair book or shop manual to get the wiring diagrams needed to troubleshoot the components.

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine. Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's pinion gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck pinion gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

A mechanic would check fuel pressure, and check the pump relay to see if it is powering the pump when the key switch is turned on.

I changed the fuel pump but the van still won't

And you know the fuel filter is good? Could be injector problem: just as a check, spray some starting fluid into the intake and see if engine runs a few seconds. If it does, it is a fuel problem. Check injector fuse, as a start. Check fuel pressure. Check injector circuit. If engine won't start with starting fluid, check if you are getting spark. Problem may be in the ignition system.

My 96 acura integra won't start but turn over

Get some engine starter spray. Follow instructions on spraying into intake. This will serve as a fuel source to test spark/ignition. You will want help cranking the car while you spray. If car stumbles and tries to run, you have a fuel problem. If after trying for a few minutes there is no change, then I would bet you don't have spark. Of course you could go further and say there could be a timing issue, no compression, etc. But I would start with the easy stuff first.
When was the last time you did a tune-up? Are the plugs in good shape?

I've been having trouble with my 95 Deville. It stalls when l'm on the road sometimes and now I can't get it started. I've had it checked at several places and no one can find the problem....

I had a Cadillac under warrantee & had to tell the
dealer what to do,so you know my feelings about them

I suspect the fuel pump failed

The pump running doesn't tell you anything

A pressure gauge on the shrader valve, on the
engine will be a good start & you could drive it
with the gauge taped to the windshield

So all these shops & a dealer, just told you to go home
they don't care? Sadly I know the routine

No you have to make sure your just looking for fuel &
not a bad crank sensor etc. If you get no crank signal
the fuel pump will time out after 10 seconds or whatever

You have to find the right shop, apparently not an easy
feat in your area.

Some vehicles need an oil pressure switch to actuate
the fuel pump

I am just throwing out generic suggestions here, not nec
your cars systems

My 1999 masda 626 won't start. it turns over but acts like it isn't getting any fuel.

check relays/fuses first then the pump if you know how to test it
the pump is easy to test locate any fuel line unplug it tell a friend to make a quick one key turn if squirts fuel then pump is fine
but check the pump relay first to make sure and to begin with simplest
it seems you can tell it is the pump but you don`t know where to start

86 thunderbird... quit while driving.. traced it down to no fuel ... pump is good .. replaced relay ... still not engaging pump ... next step ?

Did you replace the fuel filter. Did you check the fuse? How do you know the pump is good? Just because you hear it running does not mean it is pumping any fuel. A fuel pressure test will verify if the pump is indeed good. If it is the OEM pump I would bet it has failed. It is rare for a pump to last 25 years.
