How do I replace the CAM sensor on a 1996 dodge neon?

Hi, my name is John I will do my best to assist you.

To Remove
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the filtered air tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
  3. For SOHC engines, remove the air cleaner inlet tube.
  4. For SOHC engines, detach the electrical connectors from the engine coolant sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
  5. For DOHC engines, unplug the electrical connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  6. For SOHC engines, remove the brake booster hose and the electrical connectors form the holders on the end of the cylinder head cover.
  7. Unfasten the camshaft position sensor mounting screws, then remove the sensor.
  8. Loosen the screw/bolt attaching the target magnet to the rear of the camshaft.
To Install: NOTE: The target magnet has 2 locating dowels which fit into the machined locating holes in the end of the camshaft.

  1. Install the target magnet in the end of the camshaft. Tighten the retainer to 30 inch lbs. (3.4 Nm).
  2. Install the camshaft position sensor. Tighten the sensor mounting screws to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  3. For SOHC engines, place the brake booster hose and the electrical harness in the holders on the end of the valve cover.
  4. Attach the electrical connector(s) to the camshaft position sensor and coolant temperature sensor (if necessary).
  5. Install the air cleaner inlet tube and the filtered air tube.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

98 dodge neon 2.0 dohc, lost power wont go past 90 mph on the flat roads no more. changed plugs and wires, ran diff gas, looked at all electrical wires in the harness..

Hello... There are a couple of things that come to mind that would prevent high speed .... I recommend looking at cylinder compression. Make sure all the cyclinders are the right amount and that they are within 10% of each other. Also, check the ignition module and coil.

Good Luck.... Mike

New radiator for 96 plym neon is too large. old one was much smaller. 2L SOHC 16 valve engine, no AC, what gives? Are there 2 diff engines for 96 neon?

Yes there is 2 different engine, 2.0L SOHC, and 2.0L DOHC, but autoparts stores show a few different sizes available, with AC, and without, as well as cooling fan mounts location. Better take lots of measurements and head back to parts store. That's one good reason for taking old part in with you, when at all possible.

I just resently replaced a brken timing belt on my 96 neon

Neons used a DOHC interference type engine. I hate to tell you this, but the valves are bent, and your entire valve train (possibly your cylinder head) needs to be repaired or replaced all together.

When I stop the egine acts like it is missing and when I accelarate it stalls and also when I try to pass or clime a hill

neon engines are bad for plug wires that go into the head to the plugs for letting spark go down the plug to ground or through the rubber to ground ,replace the plugs and wires.Different wire sets for sohc and dohc

Engine problems 1999 dodge neon sport 2.0 L 16 valve DOHC

if the cooling fans dont come on, it might need the fan relay replaced.
the relay is located on the frame rail right below the battery tray. the easiest way to accesss it is from underneath the car.
