Question about 2005 GMC Sierra

Onstar problem

When i try to locate the vehicle onstar says "we are sorry but a system failure prevents us from preforming a vehicle locate at this time, error code 68004. This happened after I reinstalled the battery after about a month being out of the vehicle. Before this I would run a locate and it would show the same place every time when I had it sitting in my driveway. I don't know where the unit is located in the vehicle nor do I know if there is a fuse that may need to be replaced. I've checked both fuse boxes and all fuses are ok. Does any one have any ideas what may be going on, onstar tells me take it to a dealer and have it checked I can not afford to do this, if its something I can fix myself I will do it. Please help me figure this out its driving me crazy. Thank you

it should be under the hood with all the other fuses up towards the back by the windshield. Your owners manual should show exactly where it is.

SOURCE: wont shift ie when running 40 mph tach is 3000/

NOTE:The transmission is on the same fuse as the MAF, O2 sensors and at least one other sensor - if an O2 shorts out, it will blow the fuse and the trans will go into limp-home mode. Be sure the trans has power and the fuse is not blown before doing anything else.

Also note that many problems that show up as transmission issues are actually PCM or electrical, and may be external to the transmission. Try a different PCM, and check for chafing where the cables come out of the PCM.

Secondly, put a line pressure gauge ($55 shipped on Ebay, or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan).

What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Start with the simple things and check the fuse and Wire leads
at the ECM's Transmission control module and the transmission it self. Look for any damages to the wire harness and leads. Try disconnecting the wire harness form the clip on the transmission and cleaning it with brake parts cleaner and reconnect and pull the Fuse to the ECM with the ignition on the on position "engine not running" for 10 sec and place back in and start the engine and go for a test drive and see if that reset the transmission. Good luck and keep me posted, we'll get your transmission running 100% again soon.

Where can I buy onstar fmv to installin my 2013 mkx lincoln

Hello Sandra Eldridge,

Your title says what kit you prefer... From what little I know about OnStar... "OnStar FMV" appears to be the (SMART) MIRROR
approach... My best recommendation would be to get YOUR
"FMV" from CRUTCHFIELD (see below)...

"PAIN-LESS AND WELL DONE"

I checked ontar.com and your car IS ON-STAR capable...

Sadly I always make things more complex than they need to be:
I don't think the LINCOLN "sound system" is inferior in ANY WAY... and think there has got to be a better solution than by-passing an already REALLY EXCELLENT human interface...
for a "SMART MIRROR" (FMV)... So BEFORE you choose THAT SOLUTION... I would ask you to find out WHAT SERVICES
are presently in your existing MIRROR.

CRUTTHFIELD technicians can do that for you... Phone them... Talk to them...

ELSE take it to your LINCOLN DEALER and ask what service THEY COULD equip in a new car... BECAUSE I can't park without my CAMERAS any more

(just kidding... never scuffed a tire!!).

Years ago CRUTCHFIELD offered a 3-SIXTY-3 solution for my NAVIGATOR... radio navigation system to integrate BLUETOOTH.
I was QUITE DELIGHTED to deal with their technical staff

I have felt the EXTRA SECURITY of knowing the VEHICLE is being tracked... (watched over)... and felt quite secure

I think onstar is a much safer choice than fumbling with your cell-phone trying to use siri while driving.

Hope it all works out well...

Sorry to pose another question while I'm supposed to be offering a solution.

How to change cam shaft sensor on 1997 5.7 1500 chev truck

Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement (5.0L, 5.7L)

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

For Vehicles equipped with OnStar® (UE1) with Back Up Battery:

The Back Up Battery is a redundant power supply to allow limited OnStar® functionality in the event of a main vehicle battery power disruption to the VCIM (OnStar®module). Do not disconnect the main vehicle battery or remove the OnStar® fuse with the ignition key in any position other than OFF. Retained accessory power (RAP) should be allowed to time out or be disabled (simply opening the driver door should disable RAP) before disconnecting power. Disconnecting power to the OnStar® module in any way while the ignition is On or with RAP activated may cause activation of the OnStar® Back-Up Battery (BUB) system and will discharge and permanently damage the back-up battery. Once the Back-Up Battery is activated it will stay on until it has completely discharged. The BUB is not rechargeable and once activated the BUB must be replaced.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Disconnect the spark plug wires and ignition coil wire from the distributor.

  3. Disconnect the CMP sensor harness connector from the distributor.

  4. Remove the distributor cap screws.

  5. Remove the distributor cap.

  6. Remove the rotor screws.

  7. Remove the rotor.

  8. Remove the CMP sensor screws.

  9. Align the square slot in the reluctor wheel with the CMP sensor.

  10. Remove the CMP sensor.

Installation Procedure

Important: Do not use the old cap screws, CMP sensor screws, or rotor screws. Use replacement screws that have been coated with a thread locking compound. Precoated replacement cap and CMP sensor screws can be acquired using P/N 10475922 (pkg of 10 screws). Precoated replacement rotor screws can be acquired using P/N 10475924 (pkg of 10 screws).

  1. Align the square slot in the reluctor wheel with the CMP sensor.

  2. Insert the CMP sensor through the reluctor wheel slot.

  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  4. Install new CMP sensor mounting screws.

    Tighten:

Tighten the fasteners to 1.6-2.8 [n-m] (14-25 lb in).

  5. Important: The locating tabs on the rotor are necessary for correct alignment of the rotor. If the tabs are missing or damaged, replace the rotor.

  6. Install the rotor onto the reluctor wheel.

  7. Install new rotor fasteners.

    Tighten:

Tighten the screws to 1.5-2.4 [n-m] (13-22 lb in)

  8. Install the distributor cap.

  9. Install new distributor cap screws.

    Tighten:

Tighten the screws to 1.8-3.0 [n-m] (16-26 lb in)

  10. Connect the CMP sensor harness connector.

  11. Connect the spark plug wires and ignition coil wire.

  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

Where in the car is the onstar module

Hi there:
Almost directly behind the on-star button behind center of dash. Just keep in mind that the Vehicle Communication Interface Mocule (VCIM or VCM aka OnStar Module) has a specific set of unique numbers that be the module to each vehicle. These numbers, the 10 digits station identification and the 11 digits electronic serial number, are used by Natural Cellular Network and OnStar to identify the specific vehicle. Because these numbers are tied to the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the vehicle, you must never exchange these parts with those of another vehicle.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Were is the onstar location on a 2002ys deville?

It depends on WHICH PART of the OnStar system you want to know about....

> The control unit is located in the rear view mirror assembly

> The Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCU or VIU) is located behind the rear seat back

> The Celular Telephone Module depends on whether your vehicle is equipped with GPS: With GPS it is located under the right side of the rear package shelf. Without GPS it is located behind the rear seat back.

How do i remove my present onstar system and replace it with a digital system? Also whete is my current onstar system peices located st so i can remove them? 2002 buick rendezvous cx.

The Vehicle interface unit VIU and the Vehicle control unit VCU and the receiver is located behind the glove box in the passenger footwell. the onstar button is located int he overhead console. the modules are vin specific so they cant be swapped out without GM. you can remove them I have a 02 and since its no longer supported by onstar i yanked out the VIU and VCU and the cell phone receiver. then took the GPS transponder off the front driver side of the windshield and the rear attenna off the back glass and got an overhead console minus onstar and put it up. They unplug and cause no problems The fuse is fuse 32. The actual guts of the Onstar system is in the frontmost overhead compartment that is between the driver and passenger seats. However, if the option wasn't purchased you'll just have an extra slot for sunglasses.

How can i find my car from my home computer using onstar

I believe you will have to call onstar and request the location information. They will be able to tell you the address or general location of the vehicle.
I am unaware of any other means to track the vehicle unless you report it stolen.
Good luck.
