Have the cpu reset using a fault code reader for a start as it has probably lost the settings from the failures you had. Next read any fault codes and fix any that occurred from the failed alternator.

are you talking bout the computer

  • Bill Boyd Jul 21, 2013

Yes It is the central pocressing unit or the brains behind the electronics in your car. By disconnecting the battery it sometimes looses the preset program ( something like bootup in a PC) and it has to be reset before it remembers what to do.

Engine turns but won't start

Check fuel pressure. From what your explaining that is what it sounds like. Should be around 30psi and hold. Very common problem for any car that is parked overnight or filled up with gas and then it doesnt start the next day.

Jeep Unlimited starts but then stalls immediately

The accelerator is the gas pedal...how are you cranking the gas pedal in park? and, if it only stays running when you are doing this how are you "ready to go"? Was the battery tested? if the engine turns over (cranks) when you turn the key, likely there is nothing wrong with it. If you can drive it after doing whatever you do to get it running, it's doubtful that the ignition switch is bad. If it runs well after you get it started, it has nothing to do with spark plugs.
Fuel pump may be draining back and loosing pressure but you need to have pressure tests done to verify that. If you cannot crank the engine in neutral, I'd check the neutral safety switch....it should start in either park or neutral. The pump and switch are about $200 apiece...good idea to test them before spending money not to fix the problem!!!
Hope I got this right...your post is a bit confusing.

Elictrical system flashes on/off, then dies.

when you were driving, after replacing the battery, if u felt the car loosing some horse power, until it dies, then YES its your alternator, it is not recharjing the battery with power, so the car keep on sucking the battery until it dies, try to check your alternator, or check your the plug "located on the alternator itself"

Daughter's 1999 Jetta; smelled burnt rubber when leaving work last week. Car ran fine. Yesterday, started squealing (sounded like belt slipping) when started. Later in day, she turned car off and sat with...

It sounds like the alternator belt or the alternator is going bad. The squealing sound was probably the alternator belt. the alternator belt might need to get tightened or replaced or you may need a new alternator. The alternator keeps the battery charged. When the alternator goes bad the battery can not be recharged. You also should keep the power steering fluid up to par or the power steering will go bad on you.

2001 Jeep GrCh. starts, let go of gas, it stops. Battery not to

Besides the obvious: checking your alternator/charging system. If the check engine light is not on, or it comes on, and after awhile it comes off, then a couple of hours or days later it comes on again it might the crankshaft sensor. It happened to me, and it was a pain in the neck to diagnose as the check engine light had turned off and the computer wouldn't read any codes to diagnose the problem. My mechanic was trained by Mopar/Jeep, so he immediately knew what was happening.

If it is a dead or shorted battery, when the RPM's are up the vehicle will run, and you might notice a loss on power. Once the engine goes to idle and the RPM's come down the engine will die, as there is not sufficient electrical power generated by the alternator to supply the engine. A bad alternator will cause battery problems.

U need to have battery power to shft it out of park, it is locked out by a safety feature called the park interlock, this means the brake pedal and lights have to work to release the shifter, so u need a battery jump or charge.

Possible dirty fuel filter. I'd start there first, as it's the cheapest route, and quite possibly replacing the filter will solve your problem.
