There will be starting problems- sometimes it starts sometimes it won't Sometimes it will, switch off while driving. other times it may not switch off at all. It even cause misfire at random. If you are looking for a reason for a problem it is best to start at having the fault codes read.

What does trouble code Po420, for a 2011 Cadillac DTS MEAN.

If a condition exists which causes the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to detect excessive Bank 1 HO2S #2 activity outside of an acceptable range for an extended period of time, the PCM will set the P0420 code. This indicates that the three-way catalytic converters oxygen storage capacity is below a threshold considered acceptable.
Possible Causes:
Faulty Oxygen (O2) Sensor (check live data from this sensor to see what's going on)
Faulty Three-way Catalyst Converter Bank 1
Exhaust Tube
Intake Air Leaks
Faulty Fuel injector(s)
Leaking Fuel Injector (s)
Faulty Spark plugs
Improper Ignition Timing
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
Dirty Air Filter

IS their a certain part on ignition switch that could be faulty ????? Rather then looking to replace parts that may not fix the problem ,take an have a scan tool hooked up an have code's in the BCM - body control module .Qualified repair shop. The BCM controls the anti-theft . Not to auto zone or pep boy's or advance etc. They can not read BCM code's .
Passlock?"¢ System
The Passlock?"¢ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock?"¢ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.
The components of the Passlock?"¢ System are as follows:
?€¢
The ignition lock cylinder and key

?€¢
The ignition lock cylinder case, including the Passlock?"¢ sensor

?€¢
The ignition switch

?€¢
The body control module (BCM)

?€¢
The security indicator on the instrument cluster

What kind of trouble shooting can I do now? 2006 Chevy Cobalt quit running and won't start.

Should have taken to a qualified repair shop , doesn't sound like you did any trouble shooting . Just replaced a bunch of parts you didn't need ! Leave the trouble shooting to a real technician .

Am having trouble with my chevolet colorado 3.7 lt

Possible causes
- Faulty ignition switch
- Ignition Switch harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Switch circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
help.jpg What does this mean?
When is the code detected?
The ECM has detected a voltage deifference between two circuits
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible no crank or start
P1682 Chevrolet Description
There are 2 ignition 1 voltage circuits supplied to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The first ignition circuit is provided by the powertrain relay, through a fuse. This ignition 1 voltage circuit supplies power to all the internal ECM circuits associated with the throttle actuator control (TAC) operation. The second ignition 1 voltage circuit is supplied by the run/crank relay through a fuse, and is used to power the remaining internal ECM circuits. If the ECM detects a voltage difference between the 2 ignition 1 voltage circuits, DTC P1682 will set.

I have a 1992 gmc sonoma 2 wd 4.3L throtle body i am getting the service engine soon light and I checked the codes and I get number 42- Electronic spark timing bypass circuit or EST circuit is grounded...

CODE 42 Trouble Code 42 indicates that there may be a malfunction in the Electronic Spark Timing (EST) system.
During cranking, the timing is controlled by the ignition module while the ECM monitors the engine speed. When the engine speed exceeds 400 RPM, the ECM sends a BYPASS signal to the ignition module which switches the timing to ECM control. The ECM calculates what the timing should be then "tells" the ignition module via the EST circuit.
An open or ground in the EST circuit will stall the engine and set a Code 42. The engine can be re-started but it will run on ignition module timing.
The conditions for setting this code are:
  • System in BYPASS mode but the ignition module is still controlling timing
    - or -
  • Engine speed > 600 RPM with no EST pulses (ECM controlled timing) going to the ignition module for 200 msec.

Typical causes for this code include:
1) BYPASS line is open or grounded
2) EST line is open or grounded
3) PROM or CALPACK not seated properly in the ECM
4) Poor connections between ignition module and ECM
5) Poor routing of EST harness and/or poor quality ignition wires (EMI induced electrical noise)
6) Faulty or incorrect ignition module
7) Faulty ECM

Where is the most common electricalground problem

the ignition module, and the crankshaft position sensor are two common ones.the 3.8 litre in your car has three coil packs.the module that drives the coil packs is a common problem.
check that all connectors are clean and tight.
if the air flow meter on the air intake assembly is faulty, the car will shut down just after starting.
the idle air control valve could cause a very low idle and stalling.

the best thing to do is use a scan tool to check the systems,as an o2 sensor that is faulty could make the computer lean out too much and the car will stall.
defects will be stored as a trouble code or DTC.

Recurring #2 cylinder misfire.

Hello Mr Fixit...If memory serves me right, the PO352 B fault code would indicate #4 cylinder coil and PO352 A for #3. The
Possible causes ...faulty spark plug...faulty spark plug wire..faulty ignition coil pack..faulty PCM...open or short in wiring from PCM to iginition coil pack. To accurately troubleshoot and determine the problem you will need an oscilliscope and a diagnostic scanner. Without these you are basically guessing as to the cause.
The ignition control module is integrated into the PCM and a faulty ICM can definitely cause this trouble code...and i have seen my share of faulty PCM's.
Hope this helps and the best of luck to ya.

4x4 will not engage, lights just blink, and you can here clicking

The 4x4 system has a controller,or computer, called the Body Control Module and there will be stored trouble codes. To work on a system that's electronically controlled, you have to get the codes from the system.Every trouble code has a diagnostic route to follow to resolve the faulty component.I have read about Explorers having faulty door open/closed sensors. These set a code in the Body Control Module, and in the process, the BCM inhibits 4x4 operation, causing a no 4 wheel drive complaint. There is also an electric motor on the transfer case that can fail electrically or mechanically, along with speed sensors and fork position sensors that can give trouble.
