SOURCE: transmission shifts hard when the trac off light comes on
youll need to scan for transmission codes. the trac off light is a default of the trans going into a default safety mode. Bad speed sensors and simple little bolt on items like that can cause the condition but only way to really nail it is with a computer.

Hello
When you have this many problems in the electrical system guessing is not an option as to the cause. You MUST have the BMW dealer perform a diagnostic scan of the appropriate control modules for fault codes, based on the symptoms that would be the SRS (Air bag restraint system module) module and the BCM (Body control module) module. This system scan for fault codes is the very 1st thing that needs to be done to find the root cause of these faults.
SOURCE: the car won't start; lights,
Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle
SOURCE: Brake lights won't come on
check for a bad brake light fuse! if not the fuse, the brake light switch operates brake lights and if bad you will not be able to shift it out of park, as well as the brake lights not coming on.! because you have to put foot on brake to do so. if bad switch, it wont let it out of park. it could be just out of adjustment also!! good-day !

I had same issues on my 99 S80, turned out to be the spline gears on the end of the CV Axles that send signal to Wheel Speed Sensors. Their is one on each wheel, but the ones that gave me all the issues where only the front two. Problem was had to replace the entire CV Axle to be able to get new spline gear, but was only about $60, so was worth it.
