There is a cold start "sequence" which is suppose to reset the engine controls as if you had a choke. This sequence is triggered by water temperature sensors on the engine.

This sensor is different from the one operating the dash gauge. It is probably stuck on a "hot" setting and the engine controls do not reset.

99 Ford Expedition, seems to be overheating and shuts off on me. Check engine light on. What could it be

Well, not knowing anything other than what you have posted....the first thing I would do is check the fluid level. If you have done that and it is okay then the thermostat could be the next step. Next would be the water pump.....

While checking things out, have your Expedition sit there in the driveway with the engine running at idle (in park) and with the hood open, see if your fan kicks on....if it doesn't after your engine heats up to operating temperature (about 5-8 minutes running at idle) check the fuse.

This should get you started in the right direction....checking the fan/fuse/fluid is free and can be done immediately!

Why does my 2004 ford expedition air conditioner go in and out?

there are several ways that system can fail if your saying it blows cold then hot it may just be low on charge if the hvac fan quits and everything goes dead then its uaslly a electrical connectoin problem to the hvac module head thats also called the control panel if its just the fan check the connector at the fan when its running if it goes off then try to replace the connector.

there is a point in operating temperature where the engine computer will cut the a/c compressor clutch to assist in avoiding overheating. When you go through another key cycle, this computer re-evaluates the temperature and allows a/c clutch operation once again if temperature is within operating range

Temperature gauge goes up and oil light goes on

It's overheating.  check thermostat and water pump, also radiator coolant levels.  once you get it running at normal temp again take it to the shop and have them do a chemical test to see if the head gasket was damaged or the block was warped or cracked as this usually happens when your car overheats.

The heater on your Vehicle it can be a few problems.
I will mention the Importants.

First. Check the temperature, The temperature has to be At least 140 Farenheit.
Second. With a Temperature gace check the temperature of the 2 small hoses going to the Heater core. If the Temperature is almost the same on each of the small hoses, and Close to the temperature of the engine. The circulation is good.
But if only One of the hoses are Hot and the Other no. Is because is there a restriction in the Heater core, and will be nesesary to clean or replace.

Third.. Check the Blend door actuator motor. ( Is the actuator to move from cool to hot air )
Is located at center of the Instrument panel. at lower of the Hvac housing.
Is there behind the Center console.

Ok... Check the step I giving and letme know.
Thank you for use fixya...
