Burning oil

Not really. If your piston rings are worn down and letting oil into the top of cylinder where it can be burned, only an engine overhaul with new rings will stop it. Lucas oil conditioner products, Marvel mystery oil, anything like that might help a little, but won't stop the oil burning. Start saving money for a rebuild or replacement engine. Good luck.

Engine burning oil no oil leak little smoke

oil leaks are hard to identify by the blue smoke that you used to see. most of this smoke is burned up by the catalytic converter. at least until all of that oil plugs the converter up. you can tell if your burning oil by removing the spark plugs, and checking their appearance against diagnostic charts redily available on the internet. oil burning will leave a distinctive residue.

Oil pump problem on 97 540i

No, if the oil pump went bad the engine wouldn't get lubricated at all, then it would sieze.

That's like saying I'm bleeding, my heart must be bad. Not so, no heartbeat, no blood pressure.

It's good news for the oil pump that it's burning oil, at least, the pump is moving oil around the engine for it to be burned.

Bad valves or piston rings will burn oil. Most likely piston rings

2002 altima burns oil about a quart every 300 miles. I Just got this car engine is very clean . I had oil changed and they talked me into haveing an oil flush ran through the engine with the oil change....

Check your muffler, is it thick black? The engine is burning oil, you need new engine if the cylinder ring is bad (compression test), and new catalytic converter that poisoned by excessive oil.

Many altima 02 has pre-catalytic converter failure that cover under 8 years/80k miles emission law. The materials in the pre-cat destroy the engine. It is well known problem and you can get new engine under this warranty

Blue smoke

Chances are if you are blowing blue smoke, you are burning oil.  Another cause of blue tint smoke is you are burning to much fuel and not enough air.  If the engine does not act erratic or acts like it is flooding out, then I would say you are burning oil.  The most common problem found with burning oil is either worn piston rings, bad valve seats/seals.  If the engine has high mileage, I would recommend any type of oil treatment.  Change your oil, filter included, use some form of engine treatment, run it for a few hundred miles, and rechange your oil and filter again.  If your engine has over 100,000 miles, I would highly recommend using an oil that is made for high mileage engines.  As this oil has additives that will help ease the aging engine.  If this doesn't work for you, I would say you need to have the rings and valve seals replaced.  You can do this yourself with a little knowledge of engines and pick yourself up a Haynes Manual at your local auto parts store if you do not already have one.  Hope this helps.  Feel free to comment if you need more assistance.  Please don't forget to rate.  Thanks!
