Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille
WHEN LIGHTS STAY ON AFTER ENGINE OFF DRAINS BATTERY
Under the steering wheel area, follow the brake pedal up. You will see what looks almost to be the shape of cigarette lighter. It has a button there - like a pen that clicks in and out. Connected to this, if you follow, is the plug that will connect into a socket. It will be around a piggy tail of other wires - don't let them confuse you. Just follow the piece and you can't miss it.
DO NOT unplug your battery and then try to replug it back on with this switch still plugged in under the wheel area. You will have an active run and it'll spark like crazy trying to put the negative back on.
First, what you can do, is loosen the bolts and readjust it. If you need to understand the part better, just take it completely out and look at it. See how it works. Then put it back in and more forward - sometimes these just come loose and the switch is always on - hence why the light stays on. If this does not work, you will need a new brake switch. Just order one. They usually just sit in there with two screws. If you have a ratchet set or one with the right size head, this is real easy to take on and off.
IF this does not work, it could be the brake light switch relay or something else. First, just try this simpler solution and see what happens.
