Jumps out of drive into neutral whilst driving

I assume this is a manual transmission?
I have never heard of this happening with an auto.

Possible causes are loose or worn selector forks, weak or broken detent springs, excessive wear in any external gear linkage, maladjusted or binding linkage, excessive end float in the first or third motion shafts or worn synchrohub teeth.

Usually there isn't a single culprit but rather a series of small amounts of wear.

Linkage in transmission

To check transmission linkage you mus inspect first if where the linkage start. Look for excessive slack, worn, cable and fittings, corrosion and broken parts. If all of these are exist, it might be a matter of swapping it out for a new one.Make it sure that before you go pulling on, you put the parking break on.

I have a 1985 corvette with a 4 speed auto trans drove fine last week took it out out today and now it will not shift out of 1st but if I let the gas up it goes in when I give it gas it slips out then back...

Well,if you have not done so already. Get a transmission filter kit.Change the fluid, replace the gasket. Transmission fluid does lose viscosity. If you have already done this,i recommend a ****** shop.It could be any number of things inside the transmission, like linkage.

Loud popping noise when turning.Seems to be coming from the drivers side front wheel

this could be a bad inner axle joint check to see if the axle boot on the left side is torn or missing also check the wheel bearings and tie rod ends by jacking up the front of the vehicle one corner at a time and grab the tire at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock position and wiggle it back and forth looking for excessive movement in the tie rod ends then reverse your hands to the top and bottom of the tire and try moving it from top to bottom checking for excessive wheel bearing movement it shouldn't move in or out at the top or bottom

Will not idle at proper rpm

Try squeezing the fleixible fuel line before it gets into the fuel rail with the appropriate tool and see if the RPMs drop if they do either the pressure relief valve has failed or the fuel return line is blocked.Obviously you dont completely squeeze the line shut but only that you are taking some of the pressure out of the fuel rail allow enough fuel through to keep vehicle running. Its a cheap way to eliminate a potential cause for your problem.Excess pressure could be over powering the injectors. Are the injectors in a good servicable condition?
