Question about Cars & Trucks

Gmc jimmy turns over but wont start

I have a 99 jimmy. Cranks but wont start. Here the facts: changed spark plugs, wires, dist cap and coil, and fuel filter(checked pump pressure while doing this and it was fine) It will usually start after a good five minutes of cranking on a warm day but on a wet day it will never start. So i was thinking it was a ground wire. But that doesn't explain its no start in dry weather.

Are you getting spark to the plugs when it won't start ?
Injector pulse ?
It sounds like something is shorting out when its hot or wet which could be a number of things, including a wiring harness issue.

Go to a library that has a set of the factory service manuals (not Chlton's or Haynes or Motor's). The FSM's will give you all the trouble hotting charts that the dealer techs use.

I would check all the relays and the computer .
They could be over heating when coming on for a while then shorting out.

My car won't start, seems like no spark?/,just turns over and over

before u replace the whole dist. have u first checked for fuel delivery on the carb or fuel rail, and then if u have that then check the spark plug wire by removing one while cranking by arcing to metal , if you see spark then dist is good if not then replace, but if dist is good and still no start then check coil pack and or all fuses

Cranks fine but wont start. i can smell fuel. seems like its not firing.

I would check for a spark first, but you can pull of the distributor cap and check if the rotor is still turning. If it is not turning, you may have a broken timing chain. If it is turning and there is no spark, it is probably bad spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, camshaft position sensor, or crankshaft position sensor.

I have a 99 gmc jimmy sls. when i go to start it it takes me two times to start it...now it is starting to putt when i go to take off like it is hesitating..what could be the cause of this

Your ignition coil is going bad. Or at least the wire to it is. Start the truck in a shady or dark area and watch for sparks around the ignition coil. If you see some, give it a tune up, plugs, wires and cap and rotor. If you don't see any sparks, give it a tune up and also change the coil. Good luck.

1997 gmc savana 4.3, wont start ,has new fuel pump, new pressure regulator, new spark plugs , i cleand up the maxi ijector, looks ok no leaks,i do have spark and fuel but still wont work any ideas

only 3 things will cause this engine not to start (crank and not start) fuel, ignition, timing.
You haven't mentioned the engine cranks over or not, so I have to assume it cranks over.
Possible timing chain or the crank sensor on the timing chain. Have you checked this? you need to remove number 1 spark plug & when the piston is in the full top position on compression, remove the dist cap & see what spark plug wire the rotor is pointing to inside the dist cap. (I'm sure if you google checking for top dead center you'll find the proper procedure)

Engine cranks,no spark at plugs

If there is no spark at any plugs, you need to check the coil and the ignition module. If you are getting spark to some of them then check the wires and distributor cap.

97 jimmy wont start

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
hope this helps.....good luck!

Trying to time 2001 gmc jimmy 4.3

Ground coil or remove plug wife away from number one spark plug. Place finger in fron of spark plug hole while some bumps the starter. When the air for the copression pushes finger off hole stop started . Align the timing marks,or insure that they are close. Place distribiator back into hole with the cap off pointing to where the wire for number one plug is going to go. bolt down dist. and replace cap.  Your timing wil be now close enough to start or if not rotate it slightly and try again.
