I have an '85 S-10 Blazer with a 2.8 V6 automatic transmission, it has a high idle and a dieseling problem, the previous owner removed the fuse for the automatic choke, how can I reduce the idle?

Dieseling or running-on is a fairly natural consequence of an engine that is idling too fast or being switched off before the idle has been restored after being revved.

Changes to engine design to improve acceleration and economy and meet new emission regulations required higher idle speeds and dieseling became a common problem which required the introduction of a fuel cut-off solenoid on many carburettors.

Dieseling is sometimes the result of overheating or too much carbon in the combustion chamber.

The design changes mentioned above required changes to carburation, including the choke design and operation. Complying with new emission regs required a quick engine warm-up and for the automatic choke to disengage in about two minutes. A higher fast idle was also required and mostly at least one vacuum servo was used to ensure smooth running during the warm-up period.

In order to disengage the choke quickly, it was often arranged to be heated, either by electricity alone or by electricity and hot water.

If the fuse has been removed the choke will not work correctly. Why the previous owner removed the fuse is a mystery, perhaps there is a fault.
The choke must be put back into good operation in order to achieve proper fuel economy and smooth running, or alternatively the carburettor could be converted to manual choke.

Opel kadett not idling properly

Does this car have an automatic choke? Sorry, you told neither model nor year, but if it has no mechanic choke, it might have an automatic choke - you can check it by throttling the airflow by "hand" or textile ie. in the airfilter, but be careful of the strong suck.

2001 Hyundai accent wouldn't start this morning after sitting two days prime and no codes kept screwing with it I primed and runs then only primes sometimes but still runs great miss chug

Hi Miss Chug:
I'd start by using some carb/injector cleaner and make sure that the fuel delivery system is working properly.
If this is a carb type engine, make sure the automatic choke is not sticking.

Choke ligt on at idle 1986 chevy w/ quadrajet carb

sounds like the float is sticking or may have a hole in it, you can try adding some automatic transmission fluid to the gas - sometimes works if it sticking, check for a vaccume leak - but usually won't overfuel with a leak- but has happend.

My 1974 ford ltd has a problem staying running in the morning

check for an automatic choke setting. It should hang up on the throttle linkage until the unit gets hot and unwinds the choke butterfly off.

Your automatic choke is probably sticking. Spray it out with 2+2 Carb and Choke Cleaner. Do this when the car is cold so you don't start a fire. While the car is running see what position the choke butterfly is in when the engine is hot. If it is partially closed you may have a bad spring in the choke mechanism or it may need an adjustment.

1995 Mitsubishi L300 Van 2ltr aspirated motor, Automatic choke revs extremely high on cold start, will not decelerate till engine is hot. How can I remedy this?

If it's carburetor & has automatic choke, then there is probably a screw at side of carb, by step cam that moves with choke . Back it of a little at a time until you get desired cold idle speed. Make sure you turn step cam to setting it would normally be when cold, and choke on, then turn screw out to lower rpm's. Look for a little rod from choke shaft, down to base or side of carb area, to step cam.

Range rover 4.2 vogue year model 1993.

The normal reason why a hot engine doesn't start is the choke. Your fancy new range rover will have a computer controlled choke that will be activiated by a temperature sensor. maybe in his enthusiasm to replace expensive parts your dealer missed replaciijng this cheap little component. i don't see it in the list of replacements in your posting. Another possibility is that the sensor is OK but just disconnected.

In my ancient range rover I have a manual choke but essentially the same engine. I know that if the motor is hot I can't start it with the choke on.
