You can purchase a repair manual from many auto parts stores such as Autozone or Advance Auto (not sure what you have in your area) or there are on line manuals you can purchase. Haynes makes a decent manual and they usually have plenty of pictures in them which helps if you have never done a repair before.

Have you checked your steering dampener? If not, unbolt one side of it and push on it like a shock. If it's easy to push all the way in, it's bad.
