I wouldn't be at any dealer for any reason, unless
you have extra money to spend
Why would you ask if someone lied
Maybe they did,maybe they didn't
The job at hand is to resolve your vehicles
problems, all the other stuff doesn't matter.
Did the dealer or a shop do sloppy work
That would be a yes in most case in my opinion
Go to local shop close by & you drive & take a
mechanic along for a ride & explain things to them
No road test, never leave any vehicle
There is no one that can answer price questions
The shops you go to have no prices
You have to get into the job & the work involved
to come up with a price.
Why not have your uncle or friend look it over first
& weigh in
Brake have to come apart once a year for rust removal,
inspection,lubing & such,if that hasn't been done,problem
or not, it needs to be done & fluid gets flushed every 2 years,
your trans & power steering every 3 years or they will fail

2001 oldsmobile intrigue stuck in park

Check to see if you have brake lights, If they don't work replace the brake switch at the pedal. This will also let the shifter out of park. If they do work there is a solenoid at the shifter. Column shifters, replace the solenoid. Console shifters you have to replace the entire shift.

Brakes are grinding on 2001 oldsmobile intrigue

If your getting a grinding sound one of two things are happening. The low pad warning tab is scrapping your disk it just lets you know to change out your pads.
Or you have worn your pads down to the metal and they are scrapping the disks. Hopefully it is the warning tabs, otherwise you will not only need new pads but will have to get your disks machined. Depending on the age the disks might already be below servicable limit. If that is the case you will need new disks. If you like your car pay a little extra and get a set of slotted rotors which will help get rid of most of the dust and debris.

Basically though take it to a trusted mechanic and have them check it out. You don't need factory parts a good mechanic will tell you that. All you need are good quality disk pads.

When driving i hear a sound like im on rough pavement

Could be one of the following:

Old tires. The older they get, the harder the rubber gets, and they will make more and more noise.
Just because they have tread left on them doesn't make them GOOD.

Worn out brake pads. What's left of them is rubbing the rotors or drums.

Bad hub bearings. This is most likely the noise you are hearing. Sounds like you are pulling a trash dumpster behind you.

Olds intrigue warning lights on...

It is a sign that you either have a bad wheel bearing or 1 off your speed censors on 1 of the tires is bad, I just had this problem with my olds alero, but it was a wheel bearing that needed replaced.

Transmission shifts hard, makes a grinding noise, and stalls

Put in gear and stalls,,, The lock up torque converter is staying engaged. take it to auto zone and have them disconnect the plug for the torque. You will no longer have over-drive until you change the sensor, but will get you by for the time being.
Hard shift / shudder, check fluid level and colour, if full and red in colour have the trans flushed and replace trans filter.
If dark coloured you can try the flush, but to save you money, have auto zone install another transmission.

2001 oldsmobile intrigue, won't keep a charge?

This is my second oldsmobile i have owned. Now there is two positive connections right above where the battery is make sure they are free of rust and they are tight be careful not to over tighten nuts. Oldsmobile's are terrible for those external positive posts.

Brakes were grinding and now have stopped

Depending on how far you drive to work, If you can already see grooves in your rotors it is doubtful if yu will do more damage than has already been done! However, you are taking a chance if the brake light has been activated.

My 2001 oldsmobile intrigue will roll backwards fine, but when i go forward the front wheels shudder like something is rubbing. I checked brakes and they are fine.

Try turning the steering completely left and drive forward. See if the car feels like it catches or makes a crunching sound, do the same by turning all the way to the right and check for crunching or snapping noises. If it does, check the axle shafts, the CV joints are more than likely worn out.
Let me know.
