SOURCE: the battery keeps draining and

This may be over-simplified, but to find the battery drain: Remove the positive battery cable from the battery and insert an ammeter in series beween battery and cable. If something is draining the battery, it will show on the ammeter. Remove fuses one-by-one until you see a substantial reduction in the ammeter reading. That will pinpoint the circuit that is draining the battery. Then troubleshoot until you find the faulty component, wiring harness, etc. Remember there will always be a little bit of drain because of ECM, BCM, radio memory and stuff like that.

SOURCE: 1999 bmw 528i replaced battery and alternator

Replace your battery when its being tested there not testing it under a heavy enough load. A battery could have a dead cell in it and still show good on the charger. I've had that problem a few times.

SOURCE: Something keeps DRAINING the battery?

If you disconnect the negative battery cable and connect a 12V test light between the battery negative post and the negative battery cable terminal the light will burn if there's a draw. Make sure all electrical consumers are off and all doors closed when doing this draw test. If the light is on start pulling 1 fuse at a time until the light goes out, when it goes out that's the circuit that has the draw. Trace it from there.

Something keeps draining the battery on our 2004 dodge ram. the battery is new. it stays charged for 5 or 6 hours then it goes completely dead.

then you need to start doing the process of elimination. you can either pull out fuses and see if it stops the drain.pull out 2 or 3 at the time to save time. if it stops the drain. reinsert one at the time till the drain starts again. then you will know approximately where the drain is .. or you may also use a measuring device to see how much amperage is passing through the fuses... you are looking for around 9 or 10 amp drain if you loose a battery in 5-6 hrs .

i reccomend using a measuring device (multimeter or voltmeter) as it is a much better way to locate where the drain is.

youtuube videos are useful source for info about checking for the drains for first timers

92 Saab keeps dying, won't hold charge....

You have the battery and the alternator and the alternator belt and if they are working fine there must be something that is draining the battery. You need an auto electrician to check what the drain is. In such cases,on various vehicles, the BCM, body control module, proves to have something to do with it. Get A GOOD AUTO ELECTRICIAN to check if there is a particular component

Something is draining my brand new battery! New alternator, fuses checked, what else can I try?

Lacey are you sure your alternator is puting out.just because it is knew doesn't mean it's anygood. But if it is there a fuse at the alternater check it.Also make sure the battery is charged and have someone inside the car where the fuses are.Theother one out at battery lossen the cable for the battery to where they can put it on and off by hand.ok Now as you take off cable look to see if it sparks, if it does there is a short in your wiring or a bad ground.Know the other peson needs to take out a fuse then theperson at bettery need to do there thangjust keep doing till it quit sparking that will tell about where Short is. gl

What is draining my atv battery

I would suggest that you have load test done on the battery to check for dead or failing cell that is causing internal discharge.

My belt broke and now my car wont start why not?

Ok. If your car was running and then the belt broke and you continued to drive it. The case may be that you drained the battery because the alternator runs on the belt and the alternator keeps battery charged and if belt broke and you continued to drive then you may need to jump start vehicle. I guess I shouldve asked earlier but have you replaced belt yet?

What wrong when the battery light come on and stay on then keep driving and the car radio blink and the car cut off

Sounds like your battery died due to your alternator failing. The battery light most likely came on when the Alternator wasn't giving enough juice to keep the battery charged. Once the battery drained, your radio cut off and then your ignition.

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

I have a 2001 Mercury Cougar that the battery drains if I drive short distances, then it will not start, altenator is 20 months old so is the battery, Just got a complete tune up 1 month ago

Either the alternator is not charging the battery, because the belt may be loose, the battery cables may be corroded or loose, or the alternator is faulty.
The battery may not be taking a charge, there also may be a light staying on in the trunk, glove box, or under hood.
I would have a reliable auto center perform a load test.
Please let me know what you find.
