97 Tracker and just stopped running. Has new timing belt, water pump and all front eng. parts. New fuel pump, fuel filter, new distributor, Dis cap, rotor button, plugs, plug wires, mass air flow sensor, Car will start and run and drive great for about an hour and then it will die. won't start for about an hour, then starts just fine and repeats symptoms above. It has fuel and fire when I check but still will not start until it cools. Can it be the Crank speed sensor or is this just another dead end? Really becoming befuddled here!!!!
If one of the sensors is failing, you should be getting a check engine light and a trouble code. When you say it has fuel, do you have injector pulse and fuel pressure in the rail ?
Testimonial: "Pressure at the rail But didn't think to check injector pulse sense it runs extremely well until it gets warm. Trouble code now showing crank sensor. Had to replace O2 sensors first to get that one. Seems like I fix one thing just to find another. It's like a cascade and I don't get mutable codes so I have just been fixing one at a time.
Thanks

please RUN the scanner /computer by easy diagnostic and fix it. Remember the electronic vehicle now is very complicated. You have a faulty PCFM + BCM+ignition COil, sensor, etc. see the diagram attached. GOD BLESS YOU

When timing belts are installed, the normal position of the crankshaft is for #1 cylinder to be at TDC. Here is a picture of the timing belt routing and the timing marks.
I had this problem as well. The tracker had sat for 8 years and would only run off of starter fluid. I replaced the filter and fuel pump then I had no fire. Located under driver side dash in the fuse panel theres a fuse for coil. I don't remember which one, but, I am pretty sure it is a 10 amp fuse. Or just do like I did and replace any bad fuses. If that doesn't work it will be a relay located above that same fuse box.
1 disconnect battery ground cable
2 drain cooling system
3 on models with a/c, proceed as follows:
a discharge a/c system
b loosen upper and lower compressor bolts and remove compressor drive belt
c remove a/c line from top of radiator shroud
4 remove water pump drive belt
5 remove reservoir tank from radiator bracket
6 remove radiator shroud and fan/clutch from vehicle
7 remove waterpump pulley from waterpump
8 remove timing tensioner and timing belt
9 remove dipstick tube
10 remove alternator mounting bracket at water pump
11 remove water pump mounting bolts and water pump
12 reverse procedure to install, using new gasket and rubber seal
The ECM has a blown capacitor inside it for opening the injector you will most likly need to get it rebuilt, buy a new ,or used ECM had the same problem with my sidekick.
