CAR PICKS UP SPEED SLOWLY

MY CAR WAS JUST FINE NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN IT PICKS UP SPEED VERY SLOW ITS LIKE ONCE I GET OVER 3M MPH IT WILL PICK UP BUT IT DRAGS VERY SLOW WHEN I FIRST TRY TO ACCELERATE

  • Anonymous May 05, 2009

My '02 monte carlo is doing the same thing but I think more severely. Check engine light is on, all fluids are good levels and nothing leaking, but can take up to a mile to get up to speed once getting on the interstate... Putting the gas to the floor seems to make things worse and have to feather the gas carefully both in town and interstate. Strange noises started coming from under hood whenever engine revs, wouldn't say it is pinging but doing something similar. I regularly use fuel additives to clean the injectors and had a new fuel filter put on not too long ago. Could it be the transmission?

My Monte Carlo did this as well. There is a warranty recall on the catalytic converter (I think you have to have under 80,000 miles or so). Once we had that replaced, the bogging down stopped. Also, after the replacement, it began to start funny. It would turn over, but most of the time not fire the first time. Once you tried starting the first time and it dies, you can turn it over again and it starts fine. This started happening the day after I got it back from the shop when they changed out the catalytic converter.

That happened to my car about three years ago. It was the catalytic converter. Luckily at the time, it was still under warranty. The Converter, when brand new, is under a six year warranty. Take it to a local chevy dealer, since other repair shops dont know about such warranty. I know what the other poster said by the 'clunking' noise, but its not really a clunking. Its almost like a piece of paper stuck in a fan noise. Like I said, that was the problem when I had it. Are you smelling anything funny, too? Like rotten eggs or sulfer? I remember when I would put my foot on the accelerator, it was sooooo slow under 25 mph. once it got to like 40 it was fine but at 60 it would loose power again. Get it checked.

My 1994 GMC SONOMA PICK UP TRUCK picks up speed real slow what could b be the problem

If your vehicle seems to be running fine but picks up speed slowly, check to see if you have a check engine light. Having that light can point you in the direction of the problem. Also check to see if you have a bad catalytic converter which can clog your exhaust causing back pressure to the engine and cause your vehicle to pick up speed slowly or feel like it has no power. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

My car wont go past 35 sometimes and bumps when it gets there

Only thing I can is do you have a check engine light. If you do what is the code. Many auto parts stores will read your code for free.
What you said picks up slowly and tops out at 35 mph. My Chrysler 200 took 2 block to get to 2000 rpm 30 mph. That was all it would do. I had a code and changed the throttle body sending unit. The throttle body and sending unit are 1 piece unit on my car. some cars you can change just the sending unit. It improved 75 percent and when we changed gas station 3 weeks later the problem went away. With the limited info you gave that is all I got. Hope it helps.

I have a 99 volkswagen gti automatic i bought it about 4 days ago 2 days after i bought it the checkegine light ha went on i can hear it has a exhaust leak an it rattle dont know if thats cause the exhaust...

For the slow pick up of speed, change the EGR valve. A bad exhaust Gas Emissions valve will make it impossible to pick up speed or climb a hill of any kind. Fix the exhaust system leaks also, That could make the Oxygen sensor not work properly and cause the check engine light to come on. Once you've done all repairs, other than what I've told you, the light will not go out on it's own. You need to take it back to Auto Zone and have them turn it out electronically.

Observe if you go down to the first gear when you slow down and pick up speed after. It may be an issue with the torque converter. If you have rough idling , you may have a dirty or faulty IAC valve.

1994 lexus ls 400 is not acclerating fast (driving slow) picks up speed slowly whats the problem?

There may be a problem in combustion unit. If the fuel supply to the combustion unit is not perfect, you will not get a sudden pick up. Try to fix these problems to get a better drive. If you want a higher pick up add superchargers or turbo as it induces oxygen for a better combustion. Have a glance at this link http://www.carpartswarehouse.com/part/turbo.html
