My 2001 pt Cruiser will only run in 1st gear. First thing in the morning it shifts out fine, but when I turn the car off and back on it won't shift anymore. Any solutions to my problem?

There are several reasons for the trans not to shift, it could also be the shift solenoids. These transmissions are all electronic shift. You probably have a 604 41 TE auto trans (this is a four speed automatic trans). The speed sensor (input output turbine sensor) has a high failure rate due to heat produced. It may need replacement. The sensor is cheap. Whether or not this is your problem I can not say. Diagnostics need to be performed.

I am looking for a ECU pinout or a Diagram. I am throwing a "turbine overspeed" code (P0716) on a non turbo car. Also P0721 and P0705 On second ECU with the same issue.

Hello. You are confusing the turbine over speed control sensor module of the car's transmission, with a turbo charger- a forced air induction device, of a car's engine. One has nothing to do with the other.

The turbine over-speed control module is basically a sensor that reads the speed of the transmission's input shaft (torque converter) in relation to the speed of the output shaft- transmission speed ratio/gear.

Simply put- when the P0716 error code displays, it means that the ECM has detected the value(s) of the input sensor as being out of range, like being too high or too low; or that there is some bad wiring issue in the circuit.

When this happens, the subsequent P0721 output speed sensor and P0705 transmission range sensor circuit malfunction error codes appear- and does not necessarily mean that the entire transmission components (electronic modules, sensors, or mechanical parts) have malfunctioned leading to a major transmission overhaul.

It is most likely that the Input Turbine Speed sensor needs to be replaced. Take the car to a well qualified SAE certified transmission specialist who has precise diagnostic and transmission control readers and are able to reset the computerized transmission modules once the repair is made.

2001 PT Cruiser Automatic won't shift gears

OK... brains are expensive. It sounds like your PT STARTS OK, but keeps your TRANSMISSION locked.

Many transmissions have a 'lock' that is coupled to the car BRAKES. So the transmission may not allow SHIFTING if the BRAKE SWITCH is not sensed as 'brakes applied'.

APPLIED BRAKES = OK TO START/SHIFT. So it's possible a defective switch is your problem?

Find really GREAT information here:

How To Solve The PT Cruiser Transmission Problems

And there is this: "You Probably have a 604 41 TE auto trans (this is a four speed automatic trans)and if this is the case. Then you need to have the input and the output turbine sensor's replaced,(aka speed sensor) same thing different name. These sensors are cheap and have a high failure rate due to high temps the trans produces."

I have a 99 chevy my abs light on dash is on once that happens the break ligjt comes on speed gage stops wooking then transmission does not want to go shoft onothing ive checked fuses replaced te speed...

ok first lets address the abs light. Have you tried to have the codes read?usually an abs light is due to a faulty wheel speed sensor. once that happens with the brake light and speedometer quites working, it sounds like the truck goes into shutdown mode as to not damage the truck any more. The first step is to find out what codes are thrown and address the problems then go on to the next problem.

CANT FIND WHERE THE SPEED SENSOR IS NO MY 1995 OLDSMOBILE AURORA

hi , their is two different speed sensors on your vehicle one is the input speed sensor which is inside the transmission and the transmission will have to be removed to replace it the other one s the output speed sensor is located directly above the passenger side trans-axle shaft. your input sensor is the sensor which tells the transmission when to shift and the output speed sensor tells the speedometer what it should display and both those parts are fairly cheap they are around 15-25 dollars but just remember if your input speed sensor is bad it is gonna cost you a minimum of 1000 dollars to have a mechanic fix as the transmission needs to be removed hope this is what you needed

My 91 dodge stealth is in limp mode how do i fix this transmission problem

Your car is in "limp"mode because the computer doesn't know what speed your doing,So it doesn't shift,
There are three possible reasons for this,
#1= input sensor faulty on transmission,
#2=output sensor faulty on transmission,
#3=speed sensor faulty on transmission,
you need to have the transmission codes read to know which one,Autozone checks codes for free.

Transmission input output speed sensors

The speed sensor is on the tailshaft of the transmission,on the passenger side of the car,it has 3 wires. The output sensors are located on the front of the transmission about mid-way up the housing & only have 2 wires. Note the output sensors are not responsible for vehicle speed. Only the output shaft speed is recorded. They are for finding the correct cvi(clutch volume index) only. If you have a cvi issue, the transmission is toast.
