Question about Subaru Forester

1 Answer

Cost change lifters

How much should I expect to pay to replace the lifters for my 200 Subaru Forester? Is it worth doing before selling it, or is it better to sell "as is" and disclose the necessary work?

You would need to check with a local shop for both parts and labor costs.
A car is always easier to sell if it is in good running condition. Otherwise the buyer is suspect of other problems.

SOURCE: 2001 subaru forester 225000 kms..how long do they typically last?

Provided the vehicle has been serviced regulary and had good quality oil and filters, theres no reason the car shouldn't get 400,000+ kms. Check its service history, and its oil consumption.

SOURCE: Installing replacement side mirror on 2007 Subaru Forester

yes... you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can access the bolts holding the mirror on and disconnect the wiring harness as well..

Head gasket replacement cost?

Dealership $1500-2K but local Subaru shop should be 1/2 that. TB kit with all idlers, WP, and belt runs $200-300. Then adding all the things you might as well do it such as plugs, coolant, machine shop for heads adds up really quick.

Why does the initial cold start on my2.5L 1996 subaruhave noisy hydraulic lifters

Noise lifters on a 2.5 engine of the first generation are an unusuak problem; these engines are known to have "piston slap", which can sound fairly similar to noisy lifters. I owned a Forester with those symptoms and drove the car for more than 3 years without doing anything about it. The only real cure would be an engine rebiuld, which is , in most cases, not worth the effort, especially since most of the "stricken" cars continue to work without any problems for a long time.

Hi, have just bought a 1997 subaru forester s/tb.There is a clicking sound in the engine -is it normal?

If you just bought the same car brand new, would you
expect it to click?

Common sense

No -- it is not normal to produce & sell a product like that

It is 15 years old, that is why it clicks, not much you can do

How much should brake repair be for a 1999 Subaru

Best thing to do is get on the phone and call an auto parts store and get a price on the parts you want to replace, than bump that up about 10% more or less witch is most likely a shop will do, and then take that and add the labor, witch averages around 60 to 70 bucks per hour at a independent shop and 80 to 100 bucks per hour at a dealer. They will chg. at least 4 hours. remember this is only a gessament and everyone chg. different, but its someware in the ball park. Depending on what the parts cost 500 to 600 dollars is not out of the realm of posabilitys. whole lot cheaper if you do it yourself.

99 Subaru forester s/tb type A

You want to change from a standard transmission to an automatic transmission? You need a new transmission, clutch, gearshift, shift linkage just to start. You will be money ahead selling the car you have and buying one with an automatic.
