Question about 2006 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

Computer problem HELLO, I have a 2006 Ford Expedition and we have been having problem after problem and it in and out of the shop for going on 2 months maybe longer. The first time in the shop he changed O2 sensors and spark plug and some fan deal that he had to take the engine out in order to replace it saying that the air wasn't going through thats why when i would press the gas pedal while driving it felt like it was bogging down. (Over $700) then we took it home and not even an hour later went to leave and the check engine like came back on and started acting up again and not wanting ot accelerate. took it back to him and he said that it was some sensor that regulates the gas output and it was pricey and that it would be okay without it ... well my hubby looked that part up and for 2006 that part doesn't exist... then it just got worse.. we called him took it back and he had his diagnostic looked at and fixed and codes showed three injectors and another spark plug and coil packs which we had already replaced (Another $900)... got it back was driving great... Accelerating, A/C wasn't cutting off, gas mileage was better then 9MPG... but the check engine light came back on that day and three days later while driving it out of no where... the screen flashed several failures.. A/C cut off only thing that was going was engine and radio.. turn it off and back on and it would start a tad rough but WOULD NOT go out of park.. and nothing would lock, none of the power would work. We took off neg cable turned head lights on waited 15 mins and tried and nothing... just starting.. so needless to say the guy had to send a tow truck and he has it at his shop now... BUT i would like to see if you have any input of what this could be i can't afford much more... he said something about the memory and he was looking for the part used.. he would call.. PLEASE help..

First, please have it towed to a different shop.
The mechanic you have now should have fixed the second problem under his original guarantee. I doubt he has the skills to diagnose the problem correctly.
Keep in mind I am getting one side of the story without the details. But anytime you have work done and it is not right, never pay for more work on top of the original. At least without a second opinion.
If you want to discuss specific problems I can advise if given the details, such as trouble codes and the components replaced.

SOURCE: car bogs down after getting hot, service engine

Have the following tests performed : fuel system pressure test cylinder balance test as well as a injector balance test. Preferable an ASE Certified Tech will do the testing.Depending on what he/she says wel'll take it from there. Gotta know why its misfiring before we do anything else. Cat and 02 sensor respond to engine's combustion process
exhaust product.Lets see what the testing says.

SOURCE: My 2001 Ford Taurus SES all of the sudden started

. The answer is to replace all the spark plugs and wires. Even if the plug appears fine to the ***** eye, and the wire has no visible damage, there could be problems with it that cause it not to fire properly. if you have coils on it, check them also.
An ignition coil that is failing will still provide current to the plugs, but it might not be enough for a full spark and the car will run sluggishly. If the current being provided by the coil isn't consistent, the car will run rough. make sure your getting good spark from coil first. good-day !

I have a 98 ford expodtion lost the key and tor into the ignion plz help.

OK. So you lost your key. People do that all the time. That's what spare keys are for. But you apparently don't have a spare. So you tore into the ignition to try to get the vehicle to start. Now you are realizing that the vehicle has safeguards to prevent just that from happening (we call what you tried to do "hot wiring"). The reason that the car is designed that way is to prevent theft and therefore reduce insurance costs. Money saved in order to have a spare key.

So you made some stup1d mistakes.

  1. You lost your key.
  2. You didn't have a spare key.
  3. You destroyed your vehicles ignition system
And now you want help. Unfortunately, you can't fix stup1d.
Call the dealer, get it towed, have it repaired, get a new key AND a spare. And after you spend that $1000.00, consider it a lesson learned.

I already changed the cylinder head temperature sensor in my ford expedition 2006 4wD eddie bauer but I Still have the check engine light on & same code p1289. What can I do now? Please help me

you need to see a ford technician I think, sorry it is not much of an answer but you cannot possibly work through al the possibilities that are keeping that light on, they are so numerous. I believe that after a light comes on a diagnostic / service computer is used to switch it off. Merely performing a repair does not turn it off automatically, you give ford technology too much credit.

2006 ford expedition computer problems?

Anyone trying to discuss all you have been thru
would need the vehicle & start fresh
Personally I wouldn't even want all that was done so far
by what have explained
Lots of info is really needed but i have no idea what was
done,tested,how why,etc.
That Vehicle is a 5.4 3 valve engine
The spark plugs were originally two piece & break off
They needed to come out of the motor when it was brand new
& as a result of the extended shell going into the cylinder head
I would change them every 2 years as they carbon up verse
every 3 years as I do on all vehicles
The 2004,05,06 had injector leaking issues, that ruin the converters
All Fords & Lincolns have COP Ignition Coils that
only last about 6 to 8 years & are not always easy
to diagnose,as a result some people won't work
on a ford
Front Oxygen Sensors get replaced every 100,000
miles on all vehicles.
You need to look at Cylinder Misfire Counts,Cat Temp,
& Fuel Trim through out the year using professional scan
tool or software
The PCM or computer hardly ever fails, so don't even
go there & I will guarantee you they don't have a clue
how to know it has failed
If it is replaced you have to get a subscription from
ford to reflash your vehicle build info & then updates
Expensive,forget that

Why does my 2000 ford expedition not start in the rain

Hello! #1: Your lower windshield is leaking, where you can't see it...and chances are, it is near the lower right corner...dripping onto/into your PCM . Take your Expedition to a glass-shop, and ask them to remove and reinstall your windshield.. Explain to them, you believe a water-leak to be hitting your computer. Properly re-installed, it should fix your drip-problem...

#2: Check under your dash, or have a body-shop check...chances are, that a piece of molding under the hood, by the wiper valence, is not installed properly, cracked or missing... If water drips by it, the only path is directly into the PCM...Guru..saailer

Where can I find the little bulb that is inserted in the visor personal mirror for a 2006 expedition

Hello, I had to find a similar bulb for a dash display for one 2 digit display on my Climate Control. I found it at the Ford Dealer. It was affordable, but overpriced and no one else would bother stocking it.

Or you could go to a Salvage yard, get a different visor, or strip the part out of a similar Year Ford or Mercury or Lincoln product.

Suspension system off 2006 Ford Expedition - Light says suspension system off- car is riding low. Compressor not coming on

Common failure is the air compressor relay,But in some rare cases the relay will fail due to the faulty air compressor. You may wanna have a shop diagnose the issue before you replace any parts.

2006 Ford Expedition starts for about 2 seconds then shuts off

thats sounds like total fail management mode.... try reseting it by disconnecting the battery for 5 mins , and retry ... one problem known is the starter pig-tail per TSB - 06-19-14 but thats for a NO-START.... check for basic fuel and ign. ...this will be hard due to diag requires a scanner.... all else fails you'll have to go to the dealer/shop for further diag.... hope this helps... or get back to me for what you tried and the outcome......GL
