Spare 12 volt power outlet failure

The spare power outlet mounted behing the centre console, to my knowledge has never worked since I've owned this car (from new). Of course I found this out after warranty had expired. Can anyone tell me what wiring harness, cable colour etc that supplies this outlet as I would now like to use it.

Thanks - Checked for voltage, with and without ignition turned on - nothing. Can't access the connection without a major strip down although can see that the plug is connected. Any chance of getting a cable colour or schematic so I can trace back?

    Thanks again.

First probe the center contact in the power outlet with 12V test and confirm power or not. ( check with ign on since some outlets might only have power with the key or engine on ) If no power and all other interior items operate, remove outlet and check connection. It might not have ever been connected since being built. It happens .

2: test all fuses.
one is 5min work the test. why fool about , just test them....

A front console mounted power outlet is standard equipment and a rear cargo area power outlet is optional equipment on this model. The front console mounted power outlet is mounted inside the center console. This outlet can be used as a cigar lighter or power outlet, but only has 12 volt battery voltage when the ignition is in the ON or ACC positions. The rear power outlet is installed in the right rear quarter trim panel, near the spare tire jack.

Add 12 volt outlet switched by ignition

Look in your owners manual for the accessory fuse. That line turns off. Also, consider a 12 volt relay between the seat and your power source. A small toggle switch will work well for a relay.

I have a 2004 Toyota Avalon. The 115v power outlet (in back seat area, bottom of back side of center console) does not work. I have tried several fuses - no luck. Help

The exact fuse for the power outlet. That would be inside the car, the lower finish panel by your left foot, a 15 amp fuse marked on the cover "Power Outlet". -------- check out that fuse.also you can connect additional 12 volt power source to the 115 v power outlet to make it work. Its bit of modification that has to be done.Click this link for its procedure:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/06/115v-power-outlet-in-center-console-not.html --------------- This should help.thanks.Helpmech.

My cigarette lighter is not charging in my car what could it be?

You mean there seems to be no power to the vehicle's lighter unit outlet.

This lighter unit outlet is normally wired through its own fuse so check the fuse panel in the car for a blown fuse. If blown it must be replaced with a fuse of the correct amperage. The owner's manual will show you where the fuse is located.

Before you check the fuse just check the cigarette lighter outlet with another plug-in device if you have one such as a portable 12 volt tire compressor or a 12 volt plug-in auxiliary light. It could be that if you are using a charger from the outlet, the charger plug or wiring may be faulty rather than the car's power outlet itself. (These outlets don't usually give trouble unless the wiring has been messed with or the outlet itself has been damaged or abused).

If no device works from the lighter power outlet check the fuse as it may be blown.

1996 Cavalier 12 Volt power outlet in car doesn't work right?

Even thought the plug in is 12 volt. It's ouput is different. Most electronics have different ranges from 3-9 volts.
Does the 12 volt charger put out 12 volts? If so, it would burn up the electronics' capacitors on their power supplies.
How is the car's electronics doing? Are they too failing? If so, that would be a faulty voltage regulator, if not, I would hook up anything you use to the radio wires.
You cannot plug in anything directly to battery no matter what the person told you. Batteries charge, than release charge, a contiuous cycle. The power output is speratic and anything hooked straight up to the battery will need a fuse.

Do you know where the switch is for the 120 power outlets on the highlandfer limited

Ignition switch has to be on "Accessory", or "On" for the 12 volt, 120 watt power outlets on centre console and in the boot (trunk) to be on. I'm not aware of a method of turning them "off", other than when the ignition is off. Good luck!
