SOURCE: Oil type for a Volvo S-40 turbo
Hi, I read your question and you dont have to worry about the convencional oil at the moment, but sinthetic oil is higly recomended and it realy help to protect not only the turbo but the engine too ,allways try to use the same brand and type of oil ,Mobil 1 is a great choice but you can do your own research.....good luck.......

I ask that same question about my 2007 and was told that the main reason for the lite oil weight was to give better gas mileage. Still though I never changed because I got over tinkering with the manufactures specs. in my hot rod days. Stay with the 5-20W.

you can use 10w 30 or 5w 30. 5 is going to be better for cold locations and is the more universal of the two and 10 is going to be good as long as you don't go much below freezing.
