I see no one has tried to help. I am interpreting your problem as the Shift indicator shows the wrong gear. The pointer usually has a slotted opening with a screw locking the pointer to keep the pointer locked in the proper position. In this scenario, the pointer just needs to be physically reset. You will need to remove any panels covering this pointer.
Scenario 2 , Trans was locked in Park. Someone tried to force gearshift to move when Brake pedal was not stepped on and they stretched the shift components. May have stripped old parts beyond adjustment.
Scenario 3, Does not shift gears correctly while underway. Can be due to shift solenoids in transmission or connector to same solenoids. In this case clean connector to trans or replace solenoids.
Hope your problem is simply a pointer.

Error code P0722 and P2646. Can these be related? The transmission also slams into drive in the morning, but is fine after it warms up.

Not related, first is a transmission output speed sensor code, check the connector, it's probably the reason you have slamming when it s cold.
second code is for low vtec oil pressure, usually caused by low engine oil or dirty/wrong viscosity oil being used.

When i let off the gas, my manual transmission grinds and skips.

Drain the oil in the transmission and look closely at it in the sunlight for "glitter" .. a liitle will be normal, but if there is a bunch of metal shavings in it, you have internal wear problems. Gears, Syncs, shafts...etc....A rebuild or swap will be next.
I hope this helps.

2001 VW Golf does not shift at 3k rpm. almost 4k how do I check the fluid level

Hi, You will need another person to do this (adalt) Have him sit in the driver side holding the brake.
Shift the car in gear as you check the transmission dip stick. (Automatic) If you have a manual transmission you will have to crawl under the car and undo level check bolt.
Check shift linkage when you are under the car.
If transmission will not shift syncro gear maybe out of sync. I would suggest that you may not be able do the repair on automatic transmission because it is very difficult to do.

The transmission is out of sync. There is a part in your transmission that keeps the gears in sync, so when you shift, the teeth of the gears match up and don't grind. Take it to a repair shop,

Changed transmission filter, will not shift at all

Hello.
You may have not put the correct amount of fluid in the transmission. Whats happening is that if there is not enough fluid in the transmission, it syncs and the servos wont move. Its a safety thing so where you dont burn them out in the transmission.
The other thing that also may be wrong is that in the process of changing the transmission filter, you got something stuck in the transmission causing it to jam or cause something to break internally. Check your fluid level first, then go with plan be if all else fails and bring it to a transmission shop. Hope this helps!

1997 lumina trans. makes light clicking noise and seems as if it is in nuetral while I shift through the gears.

Curious if it is catching the gear? You may need to flush out the old transmission fluid and check for shavings. If there are some you are grinding gears and will have to replace that gear that is causing the loss of your transmission sync.

Transmission is shifting hard and at higher rpm's than before. checked fluid level and it was ok. Trans Filter?

you will need to have a transmission shop check this for you but it sounds like the turbine sensor or the output sensor isn't in sync .these are easy repairs but you might as well have them change the filter and fluid then
