Question about Cars & Trucks

I have a 2005 Monte Carlo lt, while driving the last few days, my voltage gauge spikes and flies to 18V (on the gauge) and my battery light comes on... I have an aftermarket stereo (deck+sub). Could this be why my gauge spikes or could it be something more serious like the voltage regulator in my alternator?

Yep,most likely the regulator (internal as you say)
The stereo may have helped cause the failure,so get a good one!

That is either a poor connection at the battery, a shorted battery cell or a defective altenator or connector burned at alternator.

1997 monte carlo 3.1 No crank problem. Battery good, all lights work. Starter cranks if jumped between solenoid terminal and hot starter terminal. Have tried both keys.

Ifit turns the engine so the bendex drive gear engages with the fly wheel then the starter is bad its nit switching inside it and you just by passed the bad switch. If the bendex drive dosn't engage then the solinoid is the cause of the problem

Car is a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. My check engine light will come on for about a day and then go out for two or three days, and then back on. It stays on steady and does not blink. All gauges...

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5932051-check_engine_light_check and let me know if you have questions.

Be sure to ask for the history when you get a scan. The computer stores all codes, even if the light has gone off. Report the codes back to us for analysis.

My 2005 Yukon xl slt the gauges, are going past where they should, charging over 18v, fuel gauge way past full, even the fuel mileage computer and tire pressures keeps getting higher, battery light keeps...

I doubt anyone could say what it will take to fix this - this problem requires visual inspection and if that doesn't turn up obvious loose ground cable some where you'll need your volt meter.

Basics - Battery voltage is good and load tests good. A battery problem can cause weird stuff too. You might try a known good battery if no tester is available.
Hooking up jumper cables in reverse polarity can cause problems beyond imagination.

Battery voltage beyond spec's will cause the power train computer to shut down in order to protect itself - it isn't doing that, right?

Add-on equipment ? at this point if grounds and power cables/wires are not indicating voltage drops I would monitor system voltages (a scanner will do nicely here) for spikes. It has got to be a voltage problem effecting so many devices. Disconnect add-ons till you are sure they are not causing the problem.

Think about a Professional, you'll save time and money ? Good Luck

Let us know.

That slushy brown stuff is signs of a blown head gasket. Have a code scanner hooked up to find out why the light is on, it will probably show coolant temperature sensor. Just out of curiosity, check the pvc valve (if your car has one), and see if it's clogged. If it is replace it, the crank case is not getting ventilated.

2005 supercharged monte carlo has very little heat.

170 is ok, this should provide excellent heat output, your problem is one that is common on many newer car, it is caused by the air temp control blend door actuator motor, I hate this system because it is prone to failure and requires the removal of the dash to repair/replace the part.
