isusu engine?? have you looked for a 8mm hole in timing gear that corresponds with a hole on plate behind then lock it in with a bolt ,remove bolt after tightening belt .DONT FORGET THIS ???.....if you cant find anything do it with no timing marks easy --- piston no 1 at tdc valves closed spin pump till fuel comes out of no 1 injector feed and lock it all together, indirect diesel is 6/8 ,,,,,direct injection is 12/16,,,,and turbo is 18/22 btdc

Was any work just done to this car? Timing belt? It is rare that these pumps go bad but I have seen a few shell out. If you are not familiar with the ALH diesel engine I would not try to replace it. You should take it to a shop that specializes in VW's.

SOURCE: diesel injection pump leaks
all diesel cars built before 1996 have seals in them which are not suitable for the new low sulfur diesel fuels sold today.Only way to remedy the problem is to have new seals fitted. Can be a costly job.Get 3 quotes.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 6.2 diesel will not bleed diesel
Make sure all lines are light when turning engine over. While turning engine over loosen the a line closes to pump or the fuel filter. You should get some fuel. Then continue on all lines working farther away.

This usually happens when the lift pump gets worn and fuel pressure drops below 7lbs and the injection pump has to work harder by pulling in the fuel and will destroy the pump, your is probably a vp44 fuel injection pump it needs replaced and they are expensive 1200.00+ but also change the lift pump or change to a fass fuel system,if the lift pump went out and you replace the injection pump it will ruin it in a short time.
The injection pump is not an easy job to change or for a novice mechanic as it has to be set in time with the engine at top dead center, and then the whole fuel system needs to be bleed of air.
