Well the 4 cyl engine uses a coil for each cylinder, and the 6 cyl uses one coil for all 6. Both systems use signals from the engine computer to fire the coils. So the RPM circuit would involve the engine computer. No distributor is used.

Here is the description for the code on a 2006 model. You will need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and testing procedures, or the services of a shop with the books and training. 0320 2006 KIA OPTIMA Description Ignition failure sensor is used to check whether the spark ignition is occurred correctly or not and also used to drive the tachometer. The sensor monitors the voltage difference between a resistance which is on the battery circuit for ignition coil. When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists. Read more:http://engine-codes.com/p0320_2006_kia_o...

2002 Optima: where is the speed sensor on a 2002 kia opitma...

The speed sensor is located on top of the transmission Just under the Air Filter. So you will have to remove the Air Filter and you will see your two main sensors (I/O sensors.) . For more detail-----------
If you remove the air filter and look down on top of the transaxel, you'll see a couple of connectors that lead to sensors that are inserted into the transaxel. The Output Speed Sensor is the one towards the rear of the car, towards the driver. The Input Speed Sensor is the one a little hidden under a diagonal cable (with a boot covering the cable) right in front of your face. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Input speed sensor

The input shaft speed sensor is located on the side of the transmission by where the engine "inputs" power to the transmission (via torque converter), thus rotating the input shaft.
The output speed sensor is located by where the axles attach to the transmission, and measures the speed that the transmission "outputs" to the axles (which make the wheels turn) and that data is also used for your speedometer reading.

My check engine light keeps coming on on my 2004 kia optima lx, 4 cylinder dohc, a little over 92000 miles on it. I had the codes checked and got this result: Code P0320 definition: ignition/distributor...

Check with the place that checked the codes for you. Maybe they can test the IG sensor for you. That might help. Otherwise check all the connections relating to the sensor.
