Question about Cars & Trucks
I doubt the cooling problem is either. The most common reason for running hot at slow speeds is not enough air coming thru the radiator. Either the cooling fan is not coming on, or there is a blockage in the radiator.
And the loud noise could be a mount. You may want to get a second opinion before having the repair done.

SOURCE: Pontiac Montana overheating
How do you know the thermostat is ok? If in doubt replace it. Water pumps are a even bigger what if. Did he do a radiator flush? Cooling system flush of the engine? Cooling fans come on at what temp and go off when? Replace the engine temperature sensor? 6 years old is bound to have sensors and such go bad.

the upper hose is suppose to be hot this lets you know that the thermostat is working like it should. if it were cold that would indicate that the thermostat was bad. i would say that it's the water pump because your not getting the circulation if it were a blockage your upper hose would still be cool as well.. hope this helps please rate...thanks
