Did the "CHECK ENGINE" light illuminate (MIL = Malfunction Indicator lamp) when this happens? If so, the code reader is your FIRST step! If you didn't get a MIL, I suspect your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has gone bad. If you don't know how to bench test the TPS, find someone who does (using an analog ohm meter to detect bad spots in the potentiometer).

YOU HAVE AN OBD2 MANAGEMENT COMP IN THE CAR SO YOU NEED AN OBD2 CODE READER TO FIND THE FAULT, TRY EBAY, THE MEMOSCAN 581 IS GOOD AS IT TELLS YOU THE REASON ON THE SCREEN BUT ALL OTHERS WILL TELL YOU THE CODE, YU THEN NEED TO TRACK THE CODE IN THE BOOK OR THE WEB ON HOW TO FIX IT,
