SOURCE: License Plate Lights

Probably not... For some reason license plate light wiring and sockets are VERY prone to corrosion. Make sure to check the light sockets and try to get to the wiring close to them, your problem is more than likely very close to the lights.

SOURCE: Replacing the license plate light

Hi,
Their is a plastic lens covering the licence plate bulb. I can be removed by using a flat-tipped screwdriver covered by a shop towel (or tape) on the right side of the lens. It should pop off where you can access the bulb.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: License plate lights do not work.

The licence plate lights are in the same line as your tail light wiring assembly. I assume your tail lights are working or you would have got a ticket for that. The wire is either cut, broken or unhooked from the tail light wires (which usually are brown). If you can not find the problem, you can always run a new wire to the tail light wire from your licence plate wire. Then they should work.
Your other problem is that the license plate ground is rusty & not grounding, which would also not let them work, so you should probably check that first. Rick

SOURCE: license plate light replacement

The license plate lights are in the ledge above the license plate. 2 screws keep the lens cover in place. Remove the screws, and the cover comes off. Just pull the lamp out (wedge base) and replace.

How to replace rear license plate light connector?

You'll need to obtain a replacement lamp holder. I do not know which particular year vehicle you have - nor do I know if it is the socket or if it is a connector between the socket and the vehicle's wiring harness (you mention both).

You may have luck at a local auto parts store for a socket. If yours is the type that consists of a lens and socket being one piece, you'll probably need to purchase a replacement at a Mazda dealer - or a local junk yard.

If it is a connector - again - the auto parts store, dealer or junk yard should have these parts. You can also cut the connector off and splice the replacement directly to the vehicle wiring if you cant get the part fast enough. If you do this, make sure the connection is tight and waterproof by coating the completed splice with silicone caulking or similar.

The license plate lights on my 1994 Mazda 929 do not come on. Since both lights (on either side are not working, I suspect that the fuze may be the problem. I would like to know where to locate the fuze...

One fuse box is located in the driver side kick panel. There are two other places where fuses/relays are located under the hood. One on the driver side & the other on the passender side nearthe battery.
