Question about Vauxhall Cars & Trucks

Open Question

P0340 vivaro vaxhaull vivaro 2.0 cdti 08 plate saturday- i left the light on in side as i forgot to close the drivers door propaly, the same time the van moved down in first gear on the drive, went i tried to moved the van, it was hard to start, so i put a secound battery to it and it started but sounded like it was only working on 1or2 pistons, it had no power it wont even get to 2000rpm, came back home and took the battery out, to get it charged. sunday- put the battery back in and tried to start it, and it took quite a long while, when i finally got it started it sounded like its not getting any diesle, and you could put the foot down and it wont go on revs, and it would cut off, every time i try to start it, the service light comes on and the plugs light come on. plug it into computer and it comes up with one fault and that is (P0340) and that is the camshaft position sensor, so i got the camshaft and the crankshaft position sensors changed and it still does the same and every time i delete the fault, then every time i try to start it, it comes up with the same code (P0340). any ideas what it could be ??? camchain jumped a tooth?? camshaft snapped ?? or anything else ?? only done about 97000 miles and had a service done 1000 miles ago and a leak came out so the same time had to get it stripped and a seal went between the engine and gear box thing that were chagned : fule filter air filter oil filter fresh oil new cluth set new gasket

SOURCE: P0340 Code Camshaft Position Sensor

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor detects the position of the camshaft in order to identifiy when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. The CMP sensor is used for ignition timing in the Ford DIS igntion system, but not in the EDIS igntion system. Both DIS/EDIS use the CMP signal for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.

On the 3.0L vulcan engine, the CMP signal is generated by a single Hall-Effect magnetic switch, activated by a single "vane" spinning around by virture of a synchronized shaft which is driven by the camshaft.

The CMP sensor & synchronizer/shaft are located behind the intake manifold (i.e., back near the firewall on a Ranger) on the top of the cylinder block. If you just need to replace the sensor, it is a simple job of unplugging the electrical connector and removing the screws holding the sensor in place. Here is a sketch of the sensor to give you an idea what to look for:

change the crankshaft positon sensor in the rear of the engine above the oilfilter. Also check the wiring to this sensor, they have a problem shorting out. You have to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors at the same time. Make sure you give your car a major tune up. Did you check yor starter?.........runjoe

SOURCE: 1999 chrysler 300m wont crank, code P0340

Sounds like the timing belt broke. Unfortunately this vehicle was not equiped with no contact valves so if that is the case you will need to have the engine and Head rebuilt. If the crank position sensor can't sense the position of the crank it should shutdown the electrical to keep you from damaging your engine.

SOURCE: code reads P0340 Camshaft position Sensor circuit

That makes the computor think the timing is off. Replace the sensor and see if that does it. You will then have to have the code cleared (erased) or the light will come back on/stay on.

License plate lights stopped working, tried license plate lights stopped working, tried replacing bulb, still doesnt work. is there a fuse to check? where is the fuse?

there is a fuse panel inside the car usually near the driver area, check the knee bolster (below steering wheel) close to the driver door, also check the side of the dash where the driver door closes.
