Question about 2000 Nissan Altima

Coolant bypass hose

There is a small hose in my car leaking coolant. One mechanic called it a bypass hose. The place where I brought my car yesterday didn't know what it was called. He said he'd have to have a parts specialist come in to identify it. Isn't it strange that 4 techs couldn't say what that part was and wouldn't a normal parts store carry that? I have a 2000 Altima SE,

SOURCE: oxygen sensors

ashleyy_ryan that year maxima can have 3 or 4 oxygen sensors 2 pre cat and 1 post cat or 2 pre cat and 2 post cat depending on the production date. the best way to find them -i found- is to start at the front of the engines exhaust manifold and follow it down you will see the exhaust go up to the rear of the engine follow it as well they are hard to see. the best way to see them is from under the car.--2000 maxima

SOURCE: Nissan Altima 2000 - Engine oil leaking problem.

replace the front oil seal. first i would clean the engine with purple power (degrease etc.) then look at the engine and make sure the leak is not coming from above like possibly the valve cover gasket or from the oil sending unit. try to tighten the bolts on the valve cover and even the oil pan. you never know, you may get lucky. i don't know where you are but front seals are cheap but the labor on the job is what costs you.

SOURCE: Car: Nissan Maxima SE 1997 tachometer broken

the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First, check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts, not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.

Have your water pump replaced, as there is no other remedy to fix that leak.

My 02 cad deville leaking coolant from some sort of bypass hose located toward the back of compartment drivers side

Many Caddys have/had small "radiators" for heat to the rear passengers located under the front seats. Most shops (or owners) never check them or know they exist.

Changed water pump, thermostat, top rad. hose. still leaking leaking antifreeze from what looks like below thermostat housing. have noticed super small hose from water pump to engine. looks hard to replace....

That is called the bypass hose. It could be leaking but I'd take a closer look at the thermostat housing. If you replaced only the thermostat and not the housing, the housing may be leaking. It's a common source of coolant leaks.

MY 1998 KEEPS LEAKING COOLANT ON PASSENGER SIDE. MECHANIC CHANGED HOSE YESTERDAY STILL HAS LEAK NOT SURE WHAT IT CAN BE. I AM TAKING IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC SATURDAY. WHAT ELSE SHOULD HE CHECK?

If it's leaking on the passenger side floor it's the heater core.

If it's leaking on the ground he can re-tighten the hose and check the heater hoses.

I am having a problem with antifreeze smell and leak. I can't see where the leak is coming from but I do see spots on the ground. It does not over heat but it does have a sent of pancake syrup once heated....

LEAK COULD BE COMING FROM RADIATOR.WHEN YOU FIRST START VECHICLE UP IN MORNING LET ENGINE IDLE TO GET UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPEN AND COOLANT PRESSURE BUILD UP. TURN ENGINE.OFF. RAISE HOOD YOU WILL SEE LEAK. THE COOLANT PRESSURE WILL PUSH OUT ANTIFREEZE.LOOK FOR LEAKS AROUND TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND LOWER RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK ON SIDES RADIATOR AND LOOK BELOW RADIATOR AREA WHERE COOLANTS FANS LOCATED RADIATOR CORES WILL LEAK AND LOOK AROUND WATER PUMP + BYPASS HOSE + CHECK HEATER HOSES TO HEATER CORE THAT GOES THROUGH BACK LOWER FIRE WALL.

My car is leaking coolant at a fast rate. I just replaced the top radiator hose yesterday which split open. I can't tell if its leaking from another hose either...

take it to a mechanic. It's either the radiator itself which is coroded, or it's another hose. It could also be the water pump. If it's any of these, you would be better off having it diagnosed, and then ordering the parts online yourself. YOu can cut the cost in half!

External coolant leak

Most likely the water pump seep hole, if it was running outthe crank It would not run, however it could be the upper radiator hose or the small bypass hose or the thermsotat housing.

The bypass hose from the waterpump to the intake is leaking. It is about four inches long and is directly under the ac compressor and bracket.

Have a small coolant leak dripping onto transaxle

It could be as simple as a leaking hose, but it may also be a corroded alloy hose fitting nipple.

Get is seen to by a mechanic before it fails completely, causing complete loss of coolant and expensive cooked motor.

Coolent leak

If you can get acces to coolant system pressurizing kit, pressurize the system with engine cold and look for leaks. The area you are describing is a cramped on on this car and the cooling system plumbing is a bit complex. You may have to raise and support the front of you car to get underneath to get a good look at the heater hoses and crossover piping. Down under the alternator is also a small bypass hose that is difficult to check. Putting pressure on the system should point you in the right place though.
