Probably but I would expect problems with a back voltage. Best earth it out on the nearest metal bolt/screw.

SOURCE: how do you hook up and aftermarket tach and water

Hi, this might help you:

normally decent technical installing plans are joined in the package when you buy them,
if not try to search for them on a search engine like google, eg: installation guide of a car gauge.

or look at an example like this :d :

Hope it's useful, and greetings,
Olivier.

Who manufactured the tach? Maybe they have a web site and instructions? Did you tach come with instructions?

I looked at autometer instructions for your vehicle, have to use an adapter, it ties into the power wire for your coil pack. The adapter costs about 97 bucks, not including tax.

Different tach manufacturers may have different hook-ups?

If you have a good look at the coil, it should still have a positive and negative sign on it somewhere. Try not let the extra wires confuse you too much. These are for the ignition module in the distributor. let me know if you need further clarification after you've had a look.

Wiring

there will be a wire that goes to to power. then ground im sure you know that. also possibly a wire for your lighting. just splice that into the pwr wire coming off the dimmer. to get rpm's it should be a green wire coming off your tach connect it to the negative side of your coil pack.

Tach. operates in reverse

I have heard of this happening when the tach is wired to the coil incorrectly. Most (if not all) tachs call for the signal wire to be connected to the NEGATIVE side of the coil. Trace your wiring to/from your tach and go from there...

I hope this helps! -Nick
