I have a 1998 Altima GLE. The doors will not lock with the key fob, but the fob will open doors when manually locked. Also the factory installed alarm system no longer blinks or comes on with manual locking of the doors. I have attempted to reset the alarm system (by inserting/removing the key 7x in 10 seconds causing a double flash of hazard lights, and then turning to AC for another double flash) but that did not help. Advice please?
More than likely the battery is dead or the remote has lost programming.
Testimonial: "The battery in the remote is new. My car battery is not very old. I am able to use my car, I just can not lock it with the fob, though I can unlock it when it is manually locked. The alarm is not flashing any longer either. "

there could be a problem with the actual remote, get it checked, if you do need a remote plz get it from a mercedes main dealer.

the body control module may need a software update..check with your local dealer
I has a similar problem and I just took the battery out of my remote. I think there is a problem/ short in the remote. It's as if the button is being pressed when it is not. I will use my spare one in the mean time. It was driving me crazy becuase I was driving long distance at the time and when I removed the battery it stopped. I hope this works for you!
