How do you turn the service engine soon light off

Disconnect either of the battery posts from the battery for at least 15 minutes...reconnect...this will re-set the system, As this does not stay off, you will need a service engine code checked...performed free at most auto parts stores...Hope the reset stays clear:)

Service engine soon lights is on on lincoln continental 2001

Sometimes the service engine light comes on when the censor in the coolant overflow gets low. Try adding a little coolant to the overflow to the appropriate level.

Service engine soon light blinking /car backfiring and missing

If your check engine light is blinking, you can take your car to Autozone, Advanced Auto or other parts house and ask them to get the engine codes. This ios a FREE service. It sounds like your camshaft positioning sensor, Cam Positioning sensor is bad. This is how comuterized systems tell where the cam and crackshaft are to set the timing. It sounds like you have timing issues.

Service engine soon light is on. now the truck is idling too slow.

You need to have it scanned. There are a couple of things that could cause the idle to low. One is the Idle air control and the other is the mass air flow. Also the Throttle Position Sensor and the air air temp sensor. Also the EGR, exhaust gas recirculate. Get the picture.

These engines are totally computer controlled, and the service engine soon light is there to tell you that you have a problem. Most Advance auto or Autozones will scan it for free, but take the code it gives and research the code , don't just replace a part.

Hope this helps

Engine service soon light

The service engine soon light, or malfunction indicator lamp, indicates that the car's engine management systems are finding a fault somewhere. The vehicle may be running "fine" but when a MIL indicator is on it tells your car's computer to run on a "drive in default". In other words, it senses something wrong and cannot calculate the correct setings to make the engine run as it should so it sets the fuel to air ratio and many other things to values that it knows will make it run so you can have it serviced.

You fuel economy is likely suffering and running and engine on default settings may cause engine deposits and further damage.

You could take your car to autozone and they will pull the codes for free but they may not clear it for you. There is a procedure on many Caddis that allow you to look athe the fault codes throught the welcome or convience center or through the auto climate controls display. I will research the procedure for this vehicle and post it as info becomes available.

You could also disconnect the battery for a few minutes to clear the codes BUT YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM AND OR STEREO LOCKOUT CODE MAY RENDER SOME SYSTEMS USELESS IF YOU DONOT HAVE THE CORRECT CODE TO REACTIVATE THEM. I do not recommend doing it that way.
