Whatever else would make a service engine soon light illuminate on a 1989 Odsmobile 98 Regency with the 3800 engine.?

The ses lite needs voltage and ground. Voltage goes hot when you turn the key on. The computer controls the ground circuit. I can't rule out, your instrument cluster may have a problem? The ground circuit could be shorted to ground before it reaches the computer. Or the computer has a problem? Just my opinion.

Codes po171 174

Here we go.... just pulled out our service ticket:

Soooo interesting, I had never looked at these before:

So on 1/10/2005 we took the Vue in, and they did the following:
date: 1/10/2005
"CUSTOMER STATES THE SES LIGHT IS ON"
CAUSE: UNKNOWN
TECH COMM: SES LIGHT IS ON. FOUND FUEL TRIM LEAN CODE P0171 & P0174. RETORQUE INTAKE VACUUM CHAMBER BOLTS AND INSTALL VACUUM CHAMBER SPRINGS PER BULLETIN02/06/01/016A

REPAIR 1: INLET AIR CONTROL VACUUM RESERVOIR - REPLACE

Then, evidently it came back on a week later:

date 1/17/2005:

LINE1: "CUSTOMER STATES THE SES LIGHT IS ON"
CAUSE: OPEN
TECH COMM: SES LIGHT IS ON.
FOUND CODE P0171 FUEL TRIM LEAN B1 CODE P0174
FOUDN MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR FAILED REPLACED MAF SENSOR

...

The problem NEVER came back..

There's my experience. Good luck!

1993 s10 2.5L the aldl not responding and code reader says module not responding

Now you need a wiring diagram & work your way back on all
of the ALDL Pins or wires, to see if their good end to end

Then you need to see what data some of them are supposed
to have at the connector.

21 years -- most likely some corrosion in the wiring, where somewhat exposed to the road, engine bay, etc

The ses light, idle,& such are another issue to work on.

I think the codes, if any, are less help than component testing
the vehicle sensors & wiring

The OBD1 Systems had common sensor wiring or grounds shared,
so grounds & failed sensors can effect other sensors & send
you all sorts of places, rather than walking down every wire with
a wiring diagram to see what's what

2007 Nissan Altima, 40,000 mi. today it would not start. battery cks ok. just a click noise when trying to start. Most likely cause?

is your ses light on? could either be the starter or the Cam position sensor... if the light is on, have you had the codes read? if it's the cam sensor, it's easy to replace yourself and the part is cheap at any autoparts store... if you had code p0340 that's the cam sensor, let me know what you find.

Both cam sensors replaced for ses/vdc/slip lights, hard starting when hot, still have ses light, rough idle at stops, smooths out when driving

First thing I would do is check oil level. If its low fill to correct level. retry. Low oil level will cause cam actuators to stick & your problem can happen with SES light. Second I would make sure you got updated cam sensors from dealer. El-****-o sensors can cause this problem also. Third off If you can fined out what the codes are in the PCM...... Nissan ignition coils that start to go bad will do this also. Throttle body that wast or lost its programmed learn can do this also.... So please see what codes are stored will help the way to look.

Possible mass airflow sensor. A cheaper way to get around paying for the super expensive 2001 Path part is to use the same year maxima sensor since they use the same motor :)

check the crank or cam position sensor,is the vehicle equip with NAPS nissan ani teft system if so it may have been trigered when chnaging battery and may have gto go into the dealer for assistance because the system shots down the engine's ecm and you need a scaner to reset it.

Idle problem and check engine light

Sounds like Crank and Cam Sensors. Had the same problem. First get the SES light checked to see what the actual problem is. IF it is the Crank or Cam sensors...it was covered in a recall a while back, you might get it for free.
