Leak or engine problem. Get a mechanic to fix it. Not quite a DIY project.

SOURCE: 2001 Toyota Corolla, Burning Oil rapidly

hi, the main cause of major oil consumption is due to cylinder wall deterioration. this is caused be bad piston ring sets that tend to chip of tiny pieces of the cylinder walls over a long period of time. this will start to show in engines with high millage. this will also lead to compression loss as well if it is not fixed soon.

To fix this issue within the cylinder walls, they will have to be machined and a new set of piston rings will have to be fitted around each affected piston. this will stop the oil from leaking into the combustion chamber and it will restore the compression rate as well.

SOURCE: oil capacity

The mitchell automotive manual says if changing your filter, 4.5 quarts. Without filter, 4.0 quarts.

SOURCE: Oil disappearing with no visible leaks and engine not using oil.

Check out this thread and take your Caddy for a couple of Wide Open Throttle runs on the Interstate. Clears out the carbon buildup on the rings that is causing oil blowby.

Oil type for '94 Tercel

Hello Seth.
If the temperature you are running until your next oil change is due will be below 50F average they recommend 5w30.
Otherwise 10w 30 is the choice.

Engine shut down on freeway. Good battery, low oil but engine not seized, start relay clicks, but when key turned, nothing-headlights don't dim, idiot lights don;t dim, Nothing. 1997 Toyota Tercel

low oil boiling water sometime automatically stop the engine for further damage. stop the engine wait for sometime. fill up oil/water. check fuse/switches for engine/lights/dimmer. re start.

Oil capacity

You can easily determine capacity by changing the oil, with filter. After adding three quarts, start and run the engine, then carefully fill it 'till it is full. Wait at least one minute between each time you add more oil so it has time to drain into the pan. When it reads full you will know the exact amount needed. Write it down and know it forever!! Offhand I believe it's closer to four than three.

Head Gasket changed >>> if installed incorrectly or wrong model ?

Head gasket is not your problem when you had the top end of the engine rebuilt it was 2 strong and blew the bottom end out so meaning the cylinder has 3 rings if they leak or on leaks you get wash out in the cylinder and it will burn the oil. the lurching is OK as long as its not a clunking

Oil consumption

You can try a special additive like RESTORE or something but usually this has to do with the piston rings, and the only way to fix it is an rebuilding the upper part of the engine. How many miles are on the car and how long have you had this problem? It would need repair or replacement. Usually replacement with a used engine is about the same or less then fixing the current engine.
Thank you,
